Trez talks up Juve trident
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Trezeguet has urged Juventus to adopt a trident attack, starting from this afternoon in Sunderland.

“We have to aim high, as we have the players both in terms of quality and quantity,” commented the Frenchman ahead of today’s friendly.

Claudio Ranieri has experimented with both a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2 in their summer tour, but so far in two games against Newcastle United and Hamburg they have lost both, conceding three goals and failing to hit the back of the net.

“We knew that we would be facing teams that are much more advanced in their pre-season preparation. We also had seven new players starting in Newcastle. We need these games to get to know each other on the field.”

Of the two matches, the St James’ Park defeat was the more impressive, as the trio upfront created plenty of scoring opportunities, denied only by Shay Given.

“I like the trident, it is an entertaining system and if we can take some of our chances then it can be more useful than the 4-4-2.”

There have been many changes in the Bianconeri squad over the summer, including the arrival of World Cup winner Vincenzo Iaquinta from Udinese.

“Iaquinta is a different player to Alessandro Del Piero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” Trezeguet told the 'Gazzetta dello Sport.’

“They like to receive the ball to feet, while Iaquinta prefers to be played into space. He speeds the move up, really opens up defences and can be a great partner in attack.”

Ranieri stated this weekend that he is more than happy to lose summer friendlies if it means the media won’t tout Juventus as Scudetto favourites. Does Trezeguet agree?

“Inter are one of the teams to beat, as they had great players before and with their reinforcements are aiming for the Double of Scudetto and Champions League. On paper in Serie A they’ll have to throw it away, but we will be there all the way.”

Sunderland-Juventus (kick-off 15.00 at the Stadium of Light) is not the only major friendly test of the day for Italian clubs, as Serie A transplants itself to England for the weekend.

Torino visit Tottenham at White Hart Lane at 14.00 with Walter Novellino expected to field David Di Michele, Vincenzo Grella and Eugenio Corini.

Inter continue their English tour with a visit to Birmingham’s Aston Villa at 15.00, just three days after conquering Old Trafford 3-2 to win the Pirelli Cup.

At the same time back at Upton Park, Roma will be taking on West Ham United with Ludovic Giuly and Juan.

Pasquale Marino’s Udinese also visit British soil for a match with Coventry City, kicking off at 14.00.

Id like to see Trezeguet-Iaquinta play upfront. This will sound very Capello-ish,but i think with their height and strength, they could be a decent pair upfront from time to time.Id never want this to be permanent however, and im sure Ranieri wont do it either.
