Trezeguet turned down Napoli

Juventus's legendary former striker David Trezeguet claims he turned down a move to Napoli last summer.

The veteran Frenchman left Italy after a decade in Turin to play for newly promoted Spanish side Hercules.

Speaking to Il Sussidario, Trezeguet said: “I had this opportunity.

“I was interested to get to know an important place with a clear and serious project.

“I said no to Napoli out of respect for the Juventus fans with whom I have a special relationship.

“I have not been able to say goodbye to them well. I will do it one day in the future.

“I will also say hi to my former teammates and Andrea Agnelli with whom I also have a great relationship.”

Trez: Juve, remember who you are!

David Trezeguet has told his former teammates to remember what Juventus represents and then advised Andrea Agnelli to appoint Jose Mourinho.

The 33-year-old French striker left Juventus last summer after a decade in Turin where he became the club's all-time foreign top goalscorer.

Interviewed by Tuttosport, Trezeguet said: “Remember what Juventus is. I would take the players into the trophy room to give them a sense.”

Asked for his opinion of prospective replacements for Gigi Del Neri, his eyes lit up when the name of Mourinho was mentioned.

“Hopefully,” he said. “Mourinho is the No 1. Del Neri works a lot, but Agnelli knows that a Ferrari needs a certain kind of driver.

“Juventus need to sign three champions who are used to winning trophies, not eight who are used to finishing in fourth place.

“Royston Drenthe was hurt in January because he wanted to come to Juventus. I told him to keep playing well because Juve would get in touch again.

“The affection of the fans is my Ballon d'Or.”

Asked to reveal what his most beautiful victory was at Juventus, he said: “The first Scudetto with Marcello Lippi and then the two Calciopoli ones.

“Even Inter's player have admitted that we were superior in those years.”

Fuck me, my eyes teared a little when I read that.
