Lyon rebuffed in Trez in bid

Lyon director of sport Bernard Lacombe has revealed the club have failed in a bid to sign David Trezeguet.

The French champions are searching for striking reinforcements after seeing their options decimated by injuries to key forwards.

Lyon boss Gerard Houllier is determined to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window and Trezeguet is one of his top targets.

Trezeguet's future at Juventus has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with the Turin club currently playing in Serie B.

Lacombe admits Lyon held talks with Juve officials over a possible move for Trezeguet, but their advances were rebuffed by the Italian giants.

"We went to Turin with the chairman to talk about David Trezeguet," Lacombe told France 3.

"They said no and I don't think they will change their mind.

"That is true that this boy can help us, because he can play Champions League football, contrary to the other great players, who couldn't be qualified to play it with us."

Olympique Lyonnais director of sports Bernard Lacombe has conceded he didn't wanted to sign an additional striker, but as coach Gerard Houiller wants to add fresh blood to his offensive lines, he has to look for a new player.

After having travelled to Brazil and to Italy to observe prospects, the Frenchman remains a huge fan of David Trezeguet, and believes he would be the best choice for Lyon.

Lacombe revealed he has been scouring the world in search of a new striker with his latest scouting trip taking him to Brazil.

"I have had the chance to go to Brazil to watch players" added Lacombe.

"Gerard Houiller wants a striker.

"For the moment, we have four.

"But if the coach thinks we need one more, we can do what is needed to take one."

Another player linked with Lyon is Sevilla's Fredi Kanoute - and he admits he would consider a move back to the club he left in 2000.
"OL means a lot to me," Kanoute told Le Progres.

"They are the club of my city, where I have learned my job.

"I haven't been contacted, but if I had to, I don't know how I would react."

Lyon admit Trez bid
Thursday 21 December, 2006

Juventus have refused an offer from Lyon for striker David Trezeguet, confirmed the French club’s sporting director.

The Ligue 1 side had already been paired with the Bianconero in the summer after the Old Lady’s relegation, but the player was then forced to stay in Turin.

“We went to Turin to speak about Trezeguet to the Juve management but they told us they are not interested in selling him and I don’t think they will change their mind,” said Bernard Lacombe to France 3.

“As to us, a player like Trezeguet would be very useful because he is not cup-tied and could play in the Champions League, unlike many other great champions who could not be fielded for our outfit in European competition,” explained the official.

Rumours suggest Lyon will not surrender easily and may make another move shortly, as Trezegeut is highly admired by Coach Gerard Houllier, who currently has a number of strikers out injured.

Reports in the past few months suggested that Juventus had rejected a bid from Milan for the striker, as the offer was not considered enough to let the former Monaco man leave, with Manchester United and Liverpool also interested in the player’s services.

Trezeguet is contracted until 2008 and has insisted that he is willing to consider the idea of remaining in Turin only if he receives guarantees that the club intends to build a highly competitive side in view of the likely return to the Serie A.

i rate klose pretty high, as one of the best attackers out there, still i'd much rather prefer keeping trez as he is already proven in our leauge and his goals per game ratio is unmatched. i don't see the need in replacing him if he's willing to stay.

damn, i think i wrote that 10 times already. :D

I almost quit French team, admits Trezeguet

PARIS (AFP) - French striker David Trezeguet has admitted that he came close to quitting international football after the World Cup because he had lost all confidence in coach Raymond Domenech.

Trezeguet missed a penalty in the shootout which helped hand victory in the final to Italy, but the Juventus attacker said that he was dismayed by his treatment by Domenech throughout the month-long tournament.

"The night after the final, I wanted to stop playing (for the national team). I didn't have faith in Domenech," the player told France Football.

"I went to the World Cup having won the Italian league title, with 23 goals in the championship and I sat on the bench," added the scorer of 34 international goals in 68 games and who was part of the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winning squads.

"After the World Cup, we talked about it. Domenech knew what I thought about him and he knew how he had behaved with me.:pint:

"But he's the boss. I remain at his disposal.

"The support of my family helped change my mind and my love for France

Lyon Thinking of Selling Carew to bring Trezeguet

According to reports, John Carew is on his way out of Stade de Gerland in January.

The Norwegian international has been ruled out for several weeks due to injury and Ligue 1 giants Lyon are ready to offload the powerhouse striker in January, in order to find the cash to secure Trezeguet from Juventus.

A number of European clubs are interested in the player though Newcastle United are understood to be leading the chase.

Carew's agents were spotted on Tyneside last week, and have reportedly offered the 27-year-old player on loan.

Roeder admitted he may use the loan market again and could be ready to lure Carew as Ameobi and Owen are sidelined for the rest of the season and Giuseppe Rossi is likely to depart.
