Seems it wasn't such a bad idea to splash some cash on a striker, after all
For the 100th time it is shown that the board, the manager and the medical team know much more about our players than us the forum members.

No-one should try to deny this. It's a fact.

Our doctors know everything about Del Piero and Trez. With their medical history and having their age in mind, the probability of one of them getting an injury that will keep him out for many months was big, especially when we need to play 2 matches per week, unlike the previous two seasons.

i wouldn't give them that much credit, sure the Amauri purchase looks wise now but it's not like they were thinking before this season Trezeguet or Del Piero will surely get injured for a longer time so we must buy a replacement . What about Camo then , he has been injury prone in the last 2 seasons why didn't they decide to buy someone who can replace him, yes we do have Marchionni who is constantly injured and Braco who is ,well...

so is it time to think of a viable replacement?
It might be. I think a lot of people are underestimating the surgery. Trezeguet has also had the injury before and kept having some pain after the first time, so this injury might prove trickier to beat than we might like to think.

I hadn't read much about the surgery before as this injury is treated in conservative fashion more often. That Trezeguet wants to have the surgery instead indicates that he's in a lot of pain and that he has had the problem for quite some time now.

Four months seems to be the absolute minimum, so we'll probably be very lucky if we have him back by January. And even then I doubt he'll be back to his top level within weeks. Add to that the fact that Trezeguet himself has already stated that he wants to be in good shape for the later stages of the Champions League and you know how things are at this point.

thats precisely why they bought amauri. 3 competitions ranging from the league, coppa italia, and CL...as good as trez and del are, they physically could not have played every game in all 3 competitoins with their age. Iaquinta is a super sub but deserves a starting spot as well and with amauri juve can count on two very strong strike forces, not just one with a strong sub.

camo is hard to replace but we have cover although not as strong as with the strikers. yes marchionni is always hurt but still gives good cover when he isnt. i think in drastic measures neddy or gio could cover and then yes brazzo. although not as strong of cover as in our strikers but still cover none the less

with camo, trez, and del out CR can give our young blood a chance...thats what i love about juve this year is the chance to see our youth excel in our team, not someone elses and the fact that they will actually get to play in competitive games and not just friendlies is great

Of course they know a lot more than we do. I'm only a bit disappointed they acted as if Trezeguet's injury wasn't such a big deal. I mean, it was pretty clear two weeks ago that things were not looking good, yet they told the press that Trez would be back within days or weeks.

I dont know guys!! This whole Trezeguet thing is making me very nervous!! I mean i know that Trez has been doing this for many years, he wont be scoring goals for coupel of games but then he will explode!!! Maybe its just his time you know!! He has had many good seasons in Juve maybe this is the year when he will start do deteriote!!! But i know that i will never loose faith in Trezeguet!! Event if Trezeguet doesnt come back in form he has earned a place in Juve history and we should respect him none the less!!!

He'll be back. In the meanwhile though he won't just miss a couple of games. He'll miss half a season. The only true goalscorer we have is Alex Del Piero, as I consider Amauri and Iaquinta good forwards, but they don't score quite as often.

Blog: Trez bien
The injury to David Trezeguet at Juventus is not bad news for all at the club, as Antonio Labbate notes.

There is no doubt that the loss of David Trezeguet to injury is a massive blow for Juventus. With 160 goals so far for La Vecchia Signora, the fact that only four men have netted more than the Frenchman for the outfit illustrates just what the club will have to do without for the next two to four months.

Yet while the 31-year-old’s knee problems have restricted the plans of boss Claudio Ranieri, it will expand the opportunities of a regular first team shirt for Amauri and, possibly, little Sebastian Giovinco.

Amauri was Juventus’ big summer signing and, for some, a contentious one at that. Not that there were doubts over his quality as a player, but critics suggested that the Turin giants seemingly had no need for the big man. What would those same pundits say today?

The Brazilian-born attacker netted the only goal of the game in the win over Udinese on Sunday and was rather unfortunate to miss out on a starting shirt in midweek. Despite the fact that Amauri was arguably in better form than Trezeguet, Ranieri opted for the old guard partnership of Alessandro Del Piero and Trezeguet.

The No 10 responded with an outrageous free-kick strike, but the evening was a little more problematic for his fellow veteran striker. Up against a very tactically aware Zenit St Petersburg side, Trezegol – as gifted as they come in front of goal – suffered one of his more anonymous evenings.

But now that there will be no Trezeguet for the immediate future, Ranieri won’t be forced to rotate his attacking options. While that may weaken the side in terms of increasing player fatigue, it’ll be easier to juggle three strikers – which include the humble Vincenzo Iaquinta – rather than four where Del Piero, Trez and Amauri would all expect to play.

Turning to Giovinco, the absence of David may not necessarily translate as an opportunity for the Azzurrini starlet to play. Yet the Atomic Ant hasn’t featured in Serie A or in the Champions League proper yet this term.

In fact, he’s even struggled to make the bench at times. But with one attacking option less in the squad, we may at last have the chance to see what Sebastian can do at the highest level. And that is an exciting prospect for all of us.

Juve braced for Buffon absence
Monday 22 September, 2008
Juventus' medical team has announced that Gigi Buffon's injury will keep him out for two games.

Buffon had to be substituted at half-time of Juve's win over Cagliari yesterday when he felt a thigh pain as he kicked a clearance.

The Azzurri No 1 was insistent that the problem wasn't serious but the club aren't taking any risks.

An official statement from the Old Lady estimates Buffon's recovery time at 10 days.

That would mean that reserve 'keeper Alex Manninger would be handed the gloves for Wednesday's game against Catania and also next Saturday's trip to Sampdoria.

Meanwhile, French international striker David Trezeguet will undergo surgery tomorrow for his knee tendon injury

Trez will be out of action until 2009 with the maximum recovery time set at five months.

i don't think ppl around here are grasping how badly this affects our league and CL campaigns. amauri is good but still unproven (irregardless of his game winning goal this past weekend). I'm being dead serious when I say that Trez accounts for at least 65%-70% of our goal tally in or with some combination. That is a big number to fill being that we ideally have to heartedly outscore our opponents to make up for our defensive short comings.
