Probably a mix of not wanting to play meaningless games and wanting to be better at Juve but I see him wanting to limit his matches as the main reason

CR7 is ultra competitive. The games at NT are not of the utmost importance and also he can give space to new players to find their place there and be rotating while he's training hard to give everything and keep his record straight on the upcoming UCL games.
