We are like 2nd best country in Europe when it comes to vaccines and it's getting worse and worse here. At this point we're on the verge of more restrictions with a slight chance of another curfew. We're getting 4000 cases per day, hospitals are full and it's just getting worse. It seems we'll have restaurants, coffee shops closed for 7 days fully, or we'll have even harder measures.
Restaurants, bars, etc have been closed since October over here. Same for our curfew. We win

Yes, completely closed.
No idea yet when they would (partially) open again either. April currently seems like earliest possibility. Then again, considering how quick things are going over here in terms of vaccinations, it might just as well be May or June.

Or July.

Or August 2023.
Eh. How will they survive? IIRC I heard some news about Isreal (they are doing great with vaccines apparently) and how they had 14.000 restaurants/bars but due to the pandemic 4000 already closed and that's such a huge blow.

Over here we're having them close at 20h for some time now and businesses are pissed because they lose cash. Can't imagine the scenario of being totally closed for half a year, jeez, that's so nuts.

Well, people employed in the industry do get unemployment cheques (which are higher than your regular unemployement benefits). A similar system is in place for the people who own the bars, restaurants, etc.
It's not a full paycheque, obviously, but it's not too bad either for most people.

Imo, that's the only thing that was handled correctly in Belgium. Thanks to our, in general, excellent social security, there was a system in place pretty much immediately to make sure people & companies did not go bankrupt. Not a perfect system (fraud is pretty easy for example), but definitely acceptable considering the circumstances.
Everything else in terms of handling the situation has been a complete disaster if you ask me.

We also do have a number of bar & restaurant owners who have decided to just quit & not open again once this thing is done. But I don't think there's a way to prevent that.

How do you guys not administered vaccines yet? We've done around 15% of the population so far, can't speak for other states but New York is probably going to open vaccinations to the general public by late April.

Our federal politicians are bickering with our local politicians about whether or not it should be allowed to deviate from the set administration order, so teachers etc can get the vaccine :touched:

Need to seize this opportunity to say that only the absolute bottom of the barrel, people so useless, worthless and stupid that they aren't tolerated anywhere in the market, are thriving in our governmental environment.

A lot of these underdeveloped nations have much younger populations, and we know that this disease, whilst being extremely contagious and nasty to 80+ year olds (with underlying health conditions), doesn’t really do too much for the vast majority of those under the age of 40.
Aside from masks, physical distancing and handwashing, ventilate, take your vit D and use mouthwash, and you'll do just as well as Vietnam and co

Yikes! At this point it seems like the traditional (Chinese) strain of Coronavirus isn't even the biggest issue anymore considering the vaccines are developed and effective. The new issue will be these new strains coming over from SA, Britain and Brazil. Although the cases of these new mutations aren't much in numbers, it seems like they are all highly contagious and likely to spread through the community. Even if we all have 70% of our population vaccinated in England/NL with Pfizer and Astrazeneca, It'll be a 'locked' society without free travel if these new variants can't be controlled upon with returning people from foreign countries I reckon.

Which means for me I've come to a point to accept this new lung virus will be with us for some time. I just read an article this weekend from our health minister saying it's likely we have to live with the virus for the rest of our lives.
Heard both that it'll continue to exist (but will become weak) and that it'll only last up to a few years globally before vaccines take care of it. Either way, not much to worry about in the future...as far as Covid 19 is concerned.
