We're not used to riots like you see in the US or in Banlieue's in France, so obviously the police force and society are in shock. In my street we had riots and stores got looted for several days which is unknown for many of us so nobody really feels safe at home. But then again if I compare it to images I had seen in Kenosha this summer, it seems not that bad.
The problem is we're facing one of the toughest lockdowns in Europe right now which will take it's toll mental health. Schools, non-essential stores, pubs and gym's are closed. On top of that we have 21:00 evening curfew. And also our vaccination strategy isn't working either and we're doing one of the worst jobs in Western Europe.
The country currently is ran by virologists at this point. Those people have 0 idea's on social harmony.

The Netherlands are almost in last place with the percentage of people who received the vaccination. I think it's around 0,6%. And thats one shot. I don't think anyone received the second shot yet. Our country is the laughingstock of europe while we pay the EU the biggest amount of all countries. I'm ashamed of our leaders but also ashamed of the riots

You guys were way too open leading up until December and the hammer came down. We're raging here in Portugal now (#1 in the world in per capita infections and deaths, baby!! Take that, USA!) and will likely be in for a long deep lockdown spell ourselves.
But nobody is setting fire to cars yet. They're still too valuable. (I've long joked that Portuguese bullfighting differed from Spanish bullfighting in that the country was always too poor to kill the bull.)

So the EU is trying to force AstraZeneca to move 70 million doses in storage in the UK to the EU, threatening them with fines. Also threatening to blockade Pfizer vaccines going to the UK from Europe. I'd imagine Macron will be up for this, the Napoleon wannabe cunt. Pretty pathetic how politics get in the way of people's lives.
Meanwhile there are new vaccines popping up everywhere. Novavax (US) has 89.6% efficacy against the original virus(es), 85.6% against the Kent/UK strain, but it may only be 50% against the South African variant.
Also another being manufactured in Scotland called Valneva - which has been developed by a French firm. LOL.
Meanwhile, large portions of the black and south Asian population in the UK don't want to have the vaccine because in their communities they get fed mumbo-jumbo conspiracy theories and believe it en masse - Covid mixed with religion, what could go wrong? Ironic that they are the people most likely to die from Covid.

They don't seem to take any notice of it until dear old daadee ma dies and then they become a voice for their community. So leading black and Asian politicians and celebrities are having to come out in support to sway them.

Idk about the behind the scenes, but AstraZeneca comes across as scetchy.
