It's not that bad then. But overwhelming majority of school kids are safe from the virus and don't asymptomatically spread it unlike 20 yo's.
They can spread it to each other and take it home to other family members. Not to mention, many are taking public transportation to get to and from school (along with teachers and other staff). It's just more people at home. Although now, you know all these kids won't be staying home. Some will be on the street doing some dumb shit.

Damn that’s so bad-but-actually-good I’m not even mad. Whoever wrote that should be making movies
This is like the 4th time they predict something like this, it won't be the last either for some reason.

Pffff, that sucks big time. I always find it horrible if vacation isn't used during the summer.

:D Well, so-so. One part of me thinks many people are handling the situation quite mature & with respect toward others and themselves. What I do not like is the panic which seems way too high, especially regarding shops and unreasonable buying of everything x10 of their need. However, it seems from tonight it won't be possible to buy more than 6kg of stuff per person which should lower the idiocy at least. If we're talking about corona itself, we still didn't hit 50 infected while nobody died yet. Since we have declared national emergency tonight, I expect huge chunk of population hitting stores in the morning and creating mess. I'm kinda worried what happens if national emergency keeps tightening, meaning if it becomes like Italy/France, I think plenty of people will have a huge problem with their income. I hate our president big time but he's handling the situation in the best way possible imo, even better than some big countries. But yeah, it depends how serious it gets here since our medical facilities aren't really that amazing, plus the capacity of beds and respirators (we have around 1000 I think) isn't very high and that can create a huge problem. I'm kinda used at being outside almost all day so four walls are gonna drive me nuts surely. However, this is gonna be a reading week, I'm gonna stuff my brain with books. I'll start working next Monday most likely.
Question, can your medical system handle if number of infected got over 3k? That's why taking measures early it's very good for not developed countries. I keep reading that Italy's health system is about to collapse. Balkan countries would easily collapse if number of infected rise above 1k.

An interstate travel ban is like 100 times less feasible than an NYC lockdown. It doesn't even make any sense and would only exacerbate panic.

I did purchase some liquor at an ABC Store in Virginia today. The store clerk said her regional manager advised they are preparing to shut down for 3-4 weeks, even as a state entity. She also said that they already have a shortage of staff and that she usually works in another district. Perhaps folks aren't working because they're scared of the virus? Not sure.

Holy shit, someone sent me pictures from the local grocery store. Basically everything is gone now. Bread, milk, pasta, rice, meat, fruits, vegetables, TP, paper towels, and other shit. They also said the police are there for purposes of preventing looting and fights for goods.

And the real impact of the virus isn't even known yet...

    Oh yeah

We walked around Chelsea a few times this weekend and it's definitely creepy quiet. We spent time on our rooftop as well which is much safer but similarly limiting. It's going to be a long 8 weeks (minimum)

Cuomo said we already have 60 people in intensive care, in total the state only has 600 spots total. Jesus fucking Christ.

Give it a week or two and it'll be fine. People can only store so much.

I am pretty confident that here in Bulgaria we can handle tens of thousands of cases. We have more than 2000 beds in intensive care, more than 1600 ventilators and we ordered 200 more. If we assume that 5% of cases will go into intensive care we can treat around 40 000 people in our hospitals at the same time.
There is enough money as we have more than 6 billion euros saved from budget surpluses in the last several years. EU has given us additional 1.5 billion. Our Debt to GDP ratio is slightly over 20% and on the internal bond markets the goverment could raise billions without problem as Bulgaria's banks are full of cash and do not know what to do with it.
The biggest problem is lack of health professionals. Taking this into account I would say the system will be on the verge of collapse once the number of cases goes over 20 000 infected. Currently we have 51 infected.
I am pretty sure this will go for many months but we will have to go back to work pretty soon otherwise our economy will be annihliated. As every other economy BTW. Look at China - people there are going back to work in full combat gear.
This will be the new normal at least till we do not have a vaccine or somehow miraculously manage to eradicate the virus everywhere on the planet.

Like I said, I doubt. I think it would horrible if it goes beyond 2000 patients. Dunno how many respirators others countries (Balkan) have but I think we have on "okayish" number compared to others, I wouldn't be surprised if others had less. We made an official statement yesterday that we have (only) 1000. So it's not exactly a trouble if we have 1000 infected, since those would be used for hard cases only. Plenty of people are released to go home even if they are infected but that's for mild symptoms. But yeah, I'm not complaining about the decision, we needed emergency early.
