This man is utter scum. It disgusts me that people like this exist, let alone hold positions of power.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Burr
What his wiki tells me:

A+ NRA rating
Pro-Israel
Anti-PPAC Act
Anti-abortion
Anti-educational funding
Believes the banks need less controlling
Believes global warming is not man made
Doesn't care about protected land/environmental issues
Opposes raising minimum wage
Anti-marijuana
Pro-LGBT
Pro-women
Hates reporters

And of course this small act of insider trading before a global crisis.

Seems to tick most of the boxes for a Republican senator.

    @Bjerknes interesting conspiracy theories.

First it was that Usa created the virus to destroy chinese economy
It's interesting, although US indices have further to retrace compared to others around the world, so the bigger you are, the harder you fall. But like a couple other folks here, I'm not fully discounting that there isn't more to this than just a naturally occurring event. The initial outbreak, timing, and scripted-nature of it all seems very... coincidental. I also find the crude war between OPEC/Russia to be oddly timed as well, crushing oil and US producers to add insult to injury to the markets. Really makes you wonder.

Interesting take. Years and years of being told Russia is the enemy, only to discover that China will be the ones to kill us all. We really need to take back production of critical items such as medical supplies. Shame that after all this is over with, we'll only be left with Amazon and Walmart.

The guy in whose hands lies the future of this country ...

And the reaction of one of the few rational people in the entire administration ...

That is pretty damned frightening, really.

Not familiar with that one in particular but I remember reading this Nature article on the lab:

    https://www.nature.com/news/inside-...tudy-world-s-most-dangerous-pathogens-1.21487

Maybe you can find whatever you need inside.
    Haha. Nice find!

China is the 2017 Madrid of the disease world.
    Quoted for truth.

Good call b/c we know once Trump says something, its a guarantee.

Best Owl Jolson reference this week.

Since some of my family still has to work, the idea was floated of the rest of us going upstate to mitigate the possibility of infection. I guess it's possible to do, but:
    1. We could have it right now considering the long incubation period.
    2. You're far from other people sure, but you're also further away from hospitals and medical care in case you do get sick.
    3. There are also probably less resources available for people that are sick.

Not sure what to think of it.
Yeah, good luck getting a ventilator.

People in the media here still bitching endlessly about Trump calling it "China virus" or "Wuhan virus".

Crisis mode global pandemic in which millions might die and society altered forever and certain folks primary concern is that nobody make a microaggression against the nation that caused the whole thing.

Unreal. Maybe humanity does need to be wiped out.
It is stupid. But just as dumb are the conservatives who are digging in to troll and pretend to be right.

I mean, there's a reason we don't call AIDS "gay Legionnaire's disease" anymore. And you'd look like an ignorant moron if you did.

Do you think anyone is going to sit through a 2 1/2 hour video to hear Justin speak?
A Justin that is neither Bieber nor Timberlake at that.

so if you don't die, you're immune :baus:
Actually, it's completely backwards. The reason kids aren't being afflicted as much is because they have not developed their immune systems yet. What makes COVID-19 a case of fatal pneumonia is because your immune system goes apeshit with a cytokine storm and destroys everything, healthy and bad, leaving you prone to bacteria that infect your lungs.

    [

We are told to confine ourselves to our homes, but we still let people pile up in the stations to catch their trains. That's what drives you crazy, it's schizophrenic.

People have a role to play though. If you cannot keep 2 meters of distance, the answer isn't to pile on each other. We really shouldn't have cops try to enforce how not to be suicidal stupid. Though certainly a little organizational instruction would help from the authorities.

    :D Bum guns ftw!

It's already devastating. She was telling me about last night. She is horrified! They won't have any more supplies for two weeks so they're rationing and reusing the little they have. So many new cases coming out positive and some were her patients.

At this point we accepted we're both gonna get sick sooner or later, there's nothing we can do. Just hope our immune systems can fight it (especially mine having a condition).
That's horrible, good luck man. :xfingers:

You don't want your immune system to fight too much. That's what can kill you.

    Good luck.

We just jumped from 9 to 49 :baus:

Those 40 got it on a cruise ship
    Floating prison Petri dishes.
