terrible game from us but at least we got to see our star put on a show. Giovinco is brilliant. There's nothing more you can say about the kid. I can't believe he's not starting every game for empoli, he's by far their best offensive player. It's bad we lost but its the coppa italia, we got the goal we needed and all we need is a 1-0 win at home and we're on.

I admit Zanetti and Nocerino are a great pair in the middle...but what bothers me the most is that when we need creativity in a game to get the ball flowing CR chooses not to put in Tiago but defenders and wingers.....If we play too defensive in the mid and not attack our chances of scoring becomes less with no creativity......
yep this is very true. with both zannetti and nocerino there is no much attacking power out of our midfield. no really killer passes. solution buy diego :faq2:

Its a myth Tiago provides more passing or killer passes then our DMs even. Both him and Almiron are supposed to be more skilled and be better passers, and I saw them against a crappy Parma in the last coppa round ( and yes, they were piss easy, they didnt step up tried even), and it was the same...they cant pass for shit.

And most importantly cant found their positions in midfield, just be static and give sideway passes all the time (never daring to make any offensive runs whatsoever, just stuck in the mid circle). I have seen Noce and Zanetti take more initiative then them and be more successful.

i'd say don't play tiago and almiron together. this is the problem i think.

But I think the individual problem they have would remain if they play with a DM still. Almiron just sucks so lets forget him, Tiago is potentially our best mid and theres hope. But he needs to get into his game and ADAPT to calcio. He doesnt provide security in either defensively or offensively.

Ranieri is being heavily criticised for benching him, because we dont see the trainings, but I just think he realised this way ahead of us in the beginning of the season (remember Tiago didnt start off well in the pre season), he signed a quality midfielder he liked, but who isnt performing or adapting one single bit to the team (its easy to say whatever in hindsight, but I think if Tiago doesnt drastically improve, he realised early on it was a mistake to sign him). Too insecure in his positioning, passing, defensive work (seriously, Empoli has small DMs like Marchiso, he wasnt facing big guys, he was tossed around like nothing), and too scared to make offensive runs.

Personally if things doesnt improve, I am eagerly hoping for the Mascherano rumour to pan out.

It was a poor team performance.

I suspect we may well have seen Almiron's last appearance for Juventus.

Now the question : What do we need more at this point and with these players, Better defense or Better attack ?

As you said, if we wouldn't play with two DMs, we would concede a lot more goals, because our defenders are not that good. On the other hand, our attackers are doing pretty well in scoring goals, even though we lack creativity in the central midfield. But our wingers can give us a lot of creativity (Neddy, Camo and Marchionni) so unless we sign a new top class CB in january, we should play with Nocerino - Zanetti partnership in the middle, as that gives our current CBs a lot of security.

this reminds me of a couple years ago.. when we got kicked out of the coppa by atalanta (also last on the table of serie A at that moment) :undecide: please we can´t get kicked out of the coppa again by a team which is last in serie a

tiago wasn't poor today, he just didn't get involved as much as I hoped he would. He did have a great chance at the top of the box but he miss hit it. He wasn't as bad as almiron but he certainly didn't give raneri any reasons to start him every game.

I remember. They actually won by big numbers I think, 5-2 or such. Lazzari, some promising youngster, scoring hattrick.

Everyone but Del Piero.

Not to sound like a fanboy, but even if usual slow turtle, he showed quite the initiative and class with alot of moves. Only one who had some urgency and could cope throughout the game.
