It's a ricochet handball:

Ball hits body first
If a player kicks or heads the ball and it hits their arm, it's not handball unless the ball goes directly into the opponent's goal or the player scores immediately.

Foul occurs before goal.
attackers' handballs are treated differently. before scoring, every touch with a hand is a foul, regardless of intent, position of the arm respective to the body, circumstances and whatnot. the rule specifically states that even accidental touches that precede a goal qualify as a foul. it's been the case for the last 2 seasons.

you posted it indeed but still debate the decision

...If a player kicks or heads the ball and it hits their arm, it's not handball unless the ball goes directly into the opponent's goal or the player scores immediately...
giménez scored immediately after the handball. the ball touched his hand, then it bounced into the goal. it was a handball, regardless of whether it's a deflection or not. and the attacker scored immediately after the handball, so it's not up for subjective evaluation, it's a foul, therefore goal cancelled and a freekick to river

and whatever happened after the handball is of course irrelevant

now the rule itself is questionable. i was also furious when in '22 they cancelled jj's goal vs cagliari for a rabiot handball when his touch was completely accidental and unavoidable, but it is what it is

No that is wrong, chronologically this is what happened:

-ricochet handball
-foul on gimenez
-goal

Therefore the ball is not dead when the foul is committed, so it should be a penalty kick.
