Okay you guys, let's say Juve are not going to retire #10, who would you give the number to?

Do you really think it's a good idea to hand it to a forward who's required to score lots of goals? Too much pressure.

I, personally, would like to see the number retired for 2 seasons then given to a youngster in the midfield. That's why I said Verratti, because he's the only youngster with a bright future ahead of him specially that Pirlo is 33 years old and Verratti will probably be our playmaker in 2 years.

In the end, yes, the number 10 will never be worn by someone worthy when we have Del Piero in mind, not even Messi.

How can anyone answer that question now? If we signed Agüero, maybe he'd have been the natural successor, or maybe not.

In the end it'll depend on which top forward steps up, I don't think a midfielder like Verratti is going to get it. He had #10 before because he played as a trequartista, before Zeman changed it up. It'll probably be a support striker like Del Piero, because I believe #9 is free as well.

Once upon a time it was quite common for sweepers to wear 10.
In 1994 world cup the Azzurri couldn't decide who to wear which number. Then they came up with a unique decision. Baggio was given his number 10, the goalkeepers were given #1, #12 and #22, but for the other numbers they decided to do it this way: the 8 defenders got the numbers from 2 to 9, the 6 midfielders from 11 to 17 and the remaining numbers were given to the forwards. That way the right back Mauro Tassotti wore #9 :D
The Spaniards did something similar at the same world cup and they even had a draw for the numbers. Guardiola got #9 even though he was a defensive midfielder.
