Lippi: 'Prandelli's the right man' Sunday 30 May, 2010

Marcello Lippi will name his 23-man squad on Tuesday and gave his blessing to Cesare Prandelli. “He’s the right man in the right place.”
Although it is not yet official, there are reports that this morning Fiorentina boss Prandelli signed a four-year contract to take charge of the Italy squad.
“At Christmas I had already told Federation President Giancarlo Abete that I intended to complete these two years and leave,” explained Lippi in a Press conference.
“Prandelli is the right man in the right place, but we can talk about this in greater depth later on.
“Going forward we can also discuss the reasons that pushed me to leave the Nazionale for a second time.”
Lippi had already quit after lifting the 2006 World Cup in Berlin, but returned following a poor Euro 2008 showing under Roberto Donadoni.
He is now preparing for his second tournament in South Africa and is experimenting with his 28-man squad, which must be cut down to 23.
Italy played two friendly tests against local sides this morning, in which Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio was experimented as a trequartista.
“It has been an important week of work that is helping us adapt to the altitude we’ll find playing in South Africa,” continued the Coach.
“I really like Marchisio as a trequartista, as of all the midfielders he is the one with the most movement off the ball. He slots in, follows the action and finds space. He also helps to cover the midfield.
“We will also test out Giorgio Chiellini as a full-back. It’s important that everyone chips in to help their teammates, a bit like Inter and my old Juventus.”
Lippi still has to cut down his list for the final 23 going to South Africa.
“You just need a little more patience. On Tuesday evening you’ll know everything.”
