I'm starting to like Marchisio down the left. I hear a lot of ''obviously out of position'', yet he manages to be one of the better performers most of the matches.
The fact that he hides one of 4-4-2's key weaknesses (getting out-numbered in central midfield by teams playing 4-5-1) apparently isn't a good reason to play him in a left-ish position.
But when he plays left mid in 4-4-2 it's only a 4-4-2 when defending. When we attack and Quag/DP comes wide left and Marchi drops in so it's more 4-3-3 than anything.

agree...but most of all he is fixing our left back weakness. At the end of the day, Marchisio was not lighting up the stage playing in that central role in midfield last season. He isnt good enough to start a head of aquilani or melo so having him play on that left wing is helping the team overall and it gies him more purpose in the team overall.
if we had zambrotta and nedved in their prime playing in this team, marchisio would be warming the bench.
