Cagliari 0-0 Lecce

CAGLIARI, February 12 (Serie A) - Lecce ground out a 0-0 draw at Cagliari to boost their fight against relegation with a hard-earned point, despite the late sending off of Alfonso Camorani.

The bad-tempered clash saw three players booked amid a series of rash challenges, before Alfonso's dismissal 10 minutes from time for a professional foul on David Suazo.

The draw leaves Cagliari hovering dangerously just one point above the relegation zone, while bottom club Lecce are now level on points with 19th-placed Treviso.

A goalless draw looked unlikely as the game burst into life with a frantic opening period, and after two minutes Cagliari defender Alessandro Budel made hash of a clearance in his own area, but Lecce striker Giuseppe Cozzolino squandered the chance to give his team the lead.

Keen to bounce back from his error, Budel put the home side on the attack with a great pass to Mauro Esposito, whose shot from the right side of the area forced an athletic save from Lecce goalkeeper Francesco Benussi.

The visitors immediately counter-attacked and Erminio Rullo's cross found Cozzolino 10 yards from goal but the young forward was denied by a superb reflex save from Antonio Chimenti.

Chimenti was kept busy throughout the first half and Karim Saidi went close with his header from Christian Ledesma's corner but the goalkeeper made a diving save, before denying Mirko Vucinic's right-footed drive on the stroke of half time.

The second half saw Cagliari improve and, within moments of the restart, Mauro Esposito fed Antonio Langella but Lecce goalkeeper Benussi saved his shot with a low dive to his right.

Benussi then pulled off an impressive double save as the shots rained in from Esposito and Langella from close range, before Lecce relieved the pressure and had a chance of their own as Halouias Konan was denied in a one-on-one with Chimenti.

With nine minutes left, Lecce were dealt a crushing blow as Camorani's lunge on Suazo earned him a straight red card and it looked as though the Serie A strugglers would have their hard work undone, a man down the closing stages.

But Lecce proved attack can be the best form of defence and kept their hosts busy by creating chances of their own.

Vucinic robbed Michele Canini of possession in the Cagliari area and fired in a shot from close range, only to see it drift wide, before the final action of the game saw Konan try a chipped shot from the edge of the area.

Chimenti made the save and kept the scoresheet blank and while a point is welcome for both sides they will need to start picking up wins soon.
:agree: if i can be assed i wud find the match report of him against milan and inter this season.

Cagliari earned their second away point of the campaign against unlucky nine-man Lazio in controversial circumstances.

Delio Rossi had precious few choices to make for this game, as he was without Cesar, Valon Behrami, Fabio Firmani, Felice Piccolo, Matteo Sereni and the suspended Christian Manfredini. Cagliari were missing Francesco Bega and Antonio Langella for this trip to the capital.

Lazio had the first real chance after five minutes, as Goran Pandev's splendid first touch took him past a defender on Massimo Oddo's pass, but he fired wide from six yards.

Antonio Chimenti was a doubt for this game with a bruised knee, but he showed great reaction skills to fingertip Tommaso Rocchi's volley over the bar from close range.

Cagliari had a great opportunity on the counter-attack with Mauro Esposito in a one-on-one with Angelo Peruzzi, but he was stopped by an incorrect offside flag.

There was controversy after 34 minutes when Fabio Liverani's rocket cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and back off the line. The referee believed the ball had not crossed the line and replays suggest he was right.

Lazio finally broke through moments later. Oddo was again involved, this time his cross was nodded in by a powerful Paolo Di Canio header that went in off the inside of the far post.

However, the home side saw Sebastiano Siviglia sent off in a curious incident just before the break. The defender fell and hit his head under a challenge from Nelson Abeijon and reacted angrily when the Uruguayan offered his apology, kicking out at his opponent. The referee witnessed the reaction from less than a metre away and showed Siviglia a straight red card.

The tension was rising and Daniele Conti curled a free kick on to the roof of the net, then a chaotic move created by Di Canio's mazy run saw Rocchi crowded out by four defenders.

Rocchi also controlled a Liverani free kick at the near post, but hesitated and a defender was able to clear at the last second.

Cagliari were understandably more aggressive after the break as the home side tried to protect the result and push forward only on the counter-attack, so Peruzzi saved a hopeful Cossu effort from distance.

The Sardinians eventually broke through with a deserved equaliser and a well-worked team move. Substitute Capone combined with Conti, who rolled across for the unmarked Massimo Gobbi to tap in. Wearing a mask to protect a facial injury, he celebrated with a Zorro-style sword move.

Moments later, Chimenti had to rush off his line to clear the ball off Rocchi's head. On the counter-attack, Conti's hopeful lob was controlled by Peruzzi.

Pisano's defensive intervention proved decisive as Rocchi dribbled his way into the area, but David Suazo nearly scored a spectacular goal. The Honduras international picked up the ball on the edge of his own area and ran the entire length of the field, shrugging off challenges, but his finish was pushed out by a Peruzzi one-handed save.

Lazio thought they had restored their lead, but the referee disallowed it in controversial circumstances. Liverani's free kick was touched on by a Cagliari player and Cribari nodded in, but the linesman claimed he had pushed Joe Bizera.

Liverani was particularly furious at the decision and a few minutes later he was sent off for elbowing an opponent. He left the field by sarcastically shaking referee Mazzoleni's hand, leaving Lazio in nine men.

They held on for dear life and Peruzzi performed a crucial reaction save on Canini's close-range header. A Suazo missile from the edge of the box then skimmed the crossbar.

Lazio's fans had been on a silent strike in protest at President Claudio Lotito but, upon seeing the difficult situation, decided to make their voices heard in the closing stages.

The tension exploded at the final whistle and Coach Delio Rossi had to physically protect the referee from a furious Emilson Sanchez Cribari, while Paolo Di Canio hurled abuse as he left the field.

Well, we have to admit that the man made an impact to the team...

I wonder how many years will pass before hearing Zlatan giving us an apology like the next one:

----------------------------------------------------------

Chimenti apologises to Juve Sunday 30 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Antonio Chimenti has apologised for his error in the defeat to Milan, while Carlo Ancelotti, Emerson and Kaka also gave their verdict on the San Siro clash.

“Andrea Pirlo’s goal went in because of my mistake, even if the ball took a strange swerve as it came round the wall,” conceded the Juventus goalkeeper after last night’s 3-1 defeat. “Milan punished us in the first half, but we have the right potential to get out of this situation.”

Chimenti is Juve’s third choice goalkeeper and started due to Gianluigi Buffon’s shoulder injury and a bout of tonsillitis for Christian Abbiati.

“The Rossoneri were lucky because they scored against the run of play,” explained his team-mate Emerson. “We tried to get back into the swing of things, but their second goal came almost immediately and it’s not easy to recover against such a strong side.”

This result has closed the gap at the top of the table to just two points and the Scudetto race has been blown wide open.

“Milan were better than Juventus on the night, it really is as simple as that,” said Kaka, who netted the second goal on Saturday evening. “It was a great feeling on a wonderful night for the club. We always maintained the same approach, both on the field and off it.”

Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the title is within their grasp after notching up seven consecutive Serie A victories.

“Now we are right back in the Scudetto race and we were in better condition than Juve going into this game,” assured the Coach. “To take the lead so early was helpful, but the difference was made by our aggressive temperament.”

The Bianconeri had won all nine of its opening ties, but Ancelotti found the tactical key to unpick that lock.

“Gennaro Gattuso was extraordinary, as was Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi. The defenders marked Zlatan Ibrahimovic tightly and that is how you must face Juventus.”

week 22

Both goalkeepers stuck out a foot to push away Esposito's low drive and a Rahman Rezai close-range effort, as it remained an open and exciting game at the Stadio San Filippo.

The two 'keepers were kept very busy and Chimenti saved a point-blank Sculli shot, while Rafael blasted wide from a promising position.

Chimenti flew to push Di Napoli's powerful counter-attack off target and Rafael again failed to score when totally unmarked.

week 23

The visitors were shaken, but did not give in and Chimenti flew to fingertip a Lodi missile that was heading for the top corner of the net.

week 24

Totti sprung the offside trap only for Chimenti to get a wrist to the angled drive and push it inches past the far post.

Rodrigo Taddei's shot was pushed out by Chimenti and Amantino Mancini nodded a corner kick inches off target, while Vincenzo Montella made his comeback 73 days after back surgery.

week 25

Chimenti also tipped a Saidi header from a Cristian Ledesma corner kick out from under the crossbar.

week 26

Antonio Chimenti tipped a Serginho free kick out from under the crossbar and from the resulting corner Jaap Stam volleyed over the target.

Chimenti was tested with a fantastic one-handed save on what would've been a magnificent Kaka curling yet powerful snapshot from the edge of the box.

Clarence Seedorf looked set to close up the game in Milan's favour with an impressive run and combination with Kaka, but Chimenti stuck out a foot to parry his precise angled drive.

week 27

Chimenti parried a Franco Semioli free kick into the path of Luciano, but the Brazilian scuffed his volley and the chance went begging

week 28

Cesar Prates held up the ball for Lucarelli's angled drive, then Antonio Chimenti performed a fine save on last season's Capocannoniere. Cesar Prates was again the provider and this time the goalkeeper stuck out a leg to parry his low drive.

Substitute Bakayoko's stunning solo effort was fingertipped over the bar by an equally impressive one-handed Chimenti save.

Cagliari 2-2 Inter Milan

CAGLIARI, May 14 (Serie A) - Internazionale had to settle for a draw at Cagliari as they rounded off a frustrating Serie A season with another disappointing performance.

Andrea Capone and David Suazo twice put the home side ahead, with Julio Cruz and Santiago Solari claiming equalisers for Inter to make it 2-2 within the opening 36 minutes.

Inter were assured of a third-place finish regardless of the final day results, and although coach Roberto Mancini guided the Nerazzurri to their second successive Coppa Italia success in midweek, it could well be his last game in charge with Inter finishing 15 points behind champions Juventus.

The Milan giants were already short in attack with Adriano back in Brazil so when they lost Obafemi Martins to a back problem in the build-up to the game, Mancini had to bring Cameroon full-back Pierre Wome into his starting line-up in midfield.

Cagliari have only been beaten at home twice this season and it showed in the opening stages as they got straight at the Inter defence.

Capone sent a long-range effort over the crossbar in the second minute, but six minutes later he had struck the opener, heading home from Mauro Esposito's cross.

However, Inter managed to hit straight back through a Cruz free-kick in the 11th minute that took a slight deflection off the wall.

That gave the Argentinian striker his 15th Serie A goal of the season and ensured he finished as Inter's top scorer, two goals ahead of Adriano.

Inter might have taken the lead shortly after when Solari headed wide from Juan Sebastian Veron's free-kick, and just after the half-hour mark, Solari was denied by the feet of home goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti after Giuseppe Favalli's low cross into the danger zone.

But Cagliari regained the lead in the 33rd minute with Esposito again the provider.

Inter defender Ivan Cordoba failed to anticipate his low cross and Suazo nipped in to beat Paolo Orlandoni from close range and register his 22nd Serie A goal of the season.

Yet again Inter drew level almost immediately, though, when Solari found room to unleash a left-footed shot that was too good for Chimenti.

Inter went close just before the break when a Kily Gonzalez cross was just too high for Javier Zanetti, and Kily went close himself in the 64th minute, firing wide from outside the area.

Five minutes later, Veron's corner fell to David Pizarro, but the Chilean's left-footed effort went well wide.

Esposito then almost capped his performance with a goal after firing in a powerful right-footed shot, while Veron sent a similar effort wide from distance.

Inter almost grabbed a winner when Cagliari substitute Francesco Bega turned Kily's cross onto his own post.

Chimenti then had to deny Inter substitute Ilario Aloe with his feet in the last minute, but Inter did not really do enough to warrant the three points.
