There is a clear difference between the way we played against BVB and Monaco. And there is basically one difference between the two ties and it's Pirlo.

One needs to take in account, Pirlo is one of the very few in this team who actually have been this far in the CL before.

I can see reasoning behind this. Pirlo could have played better. Certain players were to stressed out. Cause we were under the huge pressure here.

next game we're the underdogs. cool
I understand totally why Pirlo was chosen. For all he's done, for his experience, his calming presence, everything... at first glance, obvious choice... and it would be really hard to sit him, imagine if that backfired.

However, in this specific type of match, Marchisio playing there just would have suited us so much better and made the nail-biting a little less torturous.

That's totally fair to think that. I think playing Pirlo was his only major mistake. I think if were defending like that, Pirlo just isn't good enough defensively, and he didn't do much to relieve pressure with long balls forward.

Marchisio playing that position with his much better defensive attributes, and Pereyra with his pace and dribbling to relieve pressure would have probably made the game a little less frantic at the back.

Other than that, sitting back like we did was perfect.
I would agree with you, if we were playing a decent team. Monaco are vastly overrated here.

Give credit to ãllegri. He knew what he was doing. He knew we could hold off monaco in this manner. I doubt we will ever take the same approach semis onwards because of the quality of our opponents.

Hats off to him.
everytime I saw such plays, I know they are not part of the plan... there are massive differences between this game and the game on dortmund, the later was when everything actually went as planned, this? highly doubt it.

people are deluded and in denial if they think such game just before was the definition of 'we knew what we were doing'

We also had Pogba.
People are extremely easely forgetting Pogba wasent playing, and the Marchisio-Vidal-Pogba+Pereyra midfield+cam is SO much better then what we could field tonight

Well, i'd be inclined to agree

and then Pirlo puts a 35 meter freekick on the crossbar, wich reminds of the unique class he also still has. if he was on the bench and we get a freekick on the left side, 18 meters out, how much wouldnt we all want him to be on the field
