For the first 55 minutes Monaco was tentative and created nothing. 55-70 they tried their hearts out and came up with nothing. For the last 20 minutes, they gave up and ended up with nothing.
Give me a break. We clearly came into this match looking to make Monaco create goals with possession. Our midfield sat too far back to provide support for our forwards as they obviously were instructed to defend first and foremost, hence the reason Morata and Tevez were stranded up front all match.
If you or anyone thinks we'll employ this tactic against any of the remaining teams that's ridiculous.
I think Allegri got the tactics all wrong tonight and we're lucky Monaco aren't better. What worries me is Allegri (who has been brilliant so far) can be so wrong this late in the tournament.
Right now, I'm relieved. But to be honest; I'm not happy. It will probably come tomorrow.
Give credit to ãllegri. He knew what he was doing. He knew we could hold off monaco in this manner. I doubt we will ever take the same approach semis onwards because of the quality of our opponents.
I just don't get the thought process from some people here that we will play with this same tactic in the semi's... It's ridiculous. Of course we won't.
Should totally be team captain when Gigi retires if he keeps this up. Marchisio seems too quiet for the role, Chiellini is hot garbage and too reckless, Barza will likely have moved on.
Capitano Bonucci. Who the fuck would have guessed that.

We only need to see how differently we approached the Dortmund game to this one to know that Allegri knows what the fuck he's doing. We play according to the opponent and the situation. Against a decent defense they had close to no chance of scoring. So Allegri set up a brilliant defense and brought that down to one shot on target.
How much I underrated this man.
