I think Allegri got the tactics all wrong tonight and we're lucky Monaco aren't better. What worries me is Allegri (who has been brilliant so far) can be so wrong this far in the tournament.

Right now, I'm relieved. But to be honest; I'm not happy. It will probably come tomorrow.
That's totally fair to think that. I think playing Pirlo was his only major mistake. I think if were defending like that, Pirlo just isn't good enough defensively, and he didn't do much to relieve pressure with long balls forward.

Marchisio playing that position with his much better defensive attributes, and Pereyra with his pace and dribbling to relieve pressure would have probably made the game a little less frantic at the back.

Other than that, sitting back like we did was perfect.

Eerily, I felt we had this from like 80th minute. Monaco was poor and even though we were poorer based on our standards it just felt like this was ours. Id fancy the spanish, as bayern would rip us apart heck they all could but maybe this is exactly what we need, to be underdogs. In a way it served us well against dortmund so hopefully we can go to berlin come in may.

One needs to take in account, Pirlo is one of the very few in this team who actually have been this far in the CL before.

I can see reasoning behind this. Pirlo could have played better. Certain players were to stressed out. Cause we were under the huge pressure here.

next game we're the underdogs. cool

Yeah, those tactics were tailored to Monaco. They are strong on the counters? Don't $#@!ing let them counter.

Seriously, he did literally exactly what me & some others said before the games we should do.
:agree:

As I've said, the only thing he could have changed was have a more defensively assured Marchisio in the Pirlo role, and Pereyra in Marchisio's place. Pirlo just didn't suit this match as he needs possession to offer anything and we didn't have it. Marchisio would have offered a better defensive presence and Pereyra a much better outlet to relieve pressure.

Aside from that, perfect tactics.
