My problem with Acestream is that it always lags. The quality might be better than some Sopcast streams but the buffering process is a painful one.

Tweaking this settings helped me. Can't say how you should set it because it depends on your internet bandwidth, but generally slower connections means you need more buffer. This causes a bigger delay but should make your video smooth.
