i know del piero has more often than not been unfairly treated even when playing well he is subtituted, now nedved is playing below his own high standards people want him to be benched, while the truth of the matter is he needs games to regain his form and i bet we will be singing neddys praises after wednesdays match

Gerrard injury boosts Juve Monday 11 April, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus have been given a boost ahead of their Champions’ League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool as Steven Gerrard is struggling to shake off a groin injury.

The England star is said to have aggravated the injury during Liverpool’s defeat at Manchester City on Saturday and he now faces a race against time to feature in Wednesday’s crucial game.

Gerrard did not take part in the warm-down after Saturday’s defeat and is said to have only an outside chance of making a recovery in time.

After playing a vital role in their first leg victory, Liverpool need their talismanic skipper fit, especially as fellow midfielder Xabi Alonso has only played one reserve game.

Juventus’ injury worries seem to have eased with both Emerson and David Trezeguet taking part in training yesterday.

The pair sat out Juventus’ draw against Fiorentina but are expected to play on Wednesday.

Thats Nice
I guess that's good news, Gerrard has been instrumental in their win.

let's hope it is true

Its bad news for us Liverpool fans. It effectively means that without Gerrards passing range and drive from midfield we won't be able to play a swift counter attacking game. It also means that our one fit striker Baros will probably become isolated and ineffective.

It wouldn't have hurt so much if we had Hamann back to protect our back four but he's injured as well and Alonso the central midfield playmaker has only had 45 mins in the reserves since his 3 month lay off

So, it will be 90 minutes of defending in Turin with a rookie teenage goalkeeper. Its still 'do' able with a huge slice of luck but it does appear to me that the advantage has definitely swung significantly in your favour.

OFFICIAL: GERRARD OUT OF JUVENTUS MATCH
Paul Rogers 11 April 2005
Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool's crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg tie against Juventus on Wednesday night after failing to recover from a groin strain at the weekend.
The Liverpool captain suffered an adductor strain in the final minutes of Liverpool's 1-nil defeat to Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday and was today ruled out of the trip to Turin by medical staff at the club's Melwood training complex.

A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club confirmed Gerrard would not travel with the squad to Turin on Tuesday but will stay at Melwood for further treatment. Club doctors are hopeful Gerrard may be able to recover in time to be involved in Liverpool's game against Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday.

so Pool has even more injurys and there most important player is missing. so that is an advantage. I know it is not easy but if we want to achieve something we simple have to kick out Pool, as they don't have our quality, if we can't than i think they deserved it.

so forza juve!

BAROS: WE CAN REACH SEMI-FINAL
Steve Hunter 11 April 2005

Milan Baros returns from a domestic suspension in Turin on Wednesday night determined to help Liverpool reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The Czech striker said the first leg performance has given everybody a lot of confidence and he says there is no reason why Liverpool can't score an away goal and beat Juventus.

Baros told Liverpoolfc.tv: "When you beat a side like Juventus your confidence grows. It was great to win that game.

"we had nothing to lose in the first game at Anfield. Everyone spoke about Juventus and how they would go through easily but we just got on with what we had to do and play our football. We are in the last eight now and we have the second leg on Wednesday. We want to reach the semi-finals but there is a long way to go.

"I think we can score a goal in Juventus. We thought 2-0 was a good result but they scored a goal and now we have to go to Turin and try to score a goal. Of course it is going to be difficult but while 2-1 is not the best it is also not the worst result."

Nedved issues Reds warning

Juventus star Pavel Nedved has warned Liverpool they will be ready for them in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League meeting.
The Reds hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg, but Nedved insists Juve will not be caught cold like they were at Anfield in the first half.

"The first leg match helped us learn an important thing, we have not to sleep in the first part of the match," Nedved told Domenica Sportiva.
"We must try to score and at the same time be attentive on defence.

"I've seem them against Manchester City, they lost, it's true, but they suffered the score only at the end of match."
Nedved is confident he will be fit to face Liverpool despite picking up a back injury during last weekend's draw at Fiorentina.

"I really think I'll be on the pitch. I've been absent for a long time and now it must stop," added Nedved.

I'm not confident at all about this match and pretty nervous. I feel with Gerrard out, the other Liverpool players will play like they have something to prove; meaning that Gerrard absence won't neceassarily be an advantage for us.

Our best bet of beating them, would be to play some relaxed possesion football. Build the attacks up by passing around and pressure them gradually, don't let liverpool get into the game. Only problem with this tactic is that we don't have very good passers in the team.

We also have a lot of defensive work to do, as we can't let us be caught again by crosses, freekicks or any high balls as one goal would mean the end for us. I simply can't see us scoring three goals on wednesday, at least not in the 'first' 90 minutes.
So we should NOT play the game in a too attacking-style, we can't afford to concede a goal.

Crazy it may sound: Appiah may come in use in this match as he is athletic and fast, something we could use against the English. Pessotto on the other hand could hold his position and defend the left-flank while Zambrotta attacks.
As Jeeks wrote earlier, Blasi would be a great asset coming in late(r) in the match.

I have my doubts, wether or not we should start Nedved. It could well be the game where he proves, once again, how important he can be, on the other hand he could be as invisible as he was against Fiorentina. I'd definately start Zalayeta as he gels the best with Ibrahimovic of all the strikers. Starting Del Piero would be less risky than starting Nedved though.

A lot of food for thought for Capello, i'd say.

ill warn you about our left back djimi traore hes unbelievably quick and alot of fans from all teams in engaldn and some from europe have been calling him the new reoberto carlos. he has some unbelievable skill and would usually be a lef midefielder but for risse , so traore will combine with risse and run up the left flank.

i jus t found a quote from rijkaard about traore when he tried to sign him on google

"My scouts said to me, if you sign this player you will have the most skillful player in the world. I saw him on two occaisions and I was in awe.

We made an approach but he chose Liverpool as they had the French influence at the club at the time he signed. We really missed out, he's quite something"

I am not confident either and I have the same fears as others want to prove their worth without their captain.

I am counting on Camoranesi AND Nedved to be able to pass and on Emerson to help keep possession.

Definitely our weekpoint and it has been exposed in 2 consecutive matches.

I agree about Appiah but I would put Pessotto to replace Zebina and keep Zambrotta on the flank, I am thinking now it sounds better.

Nedved should start and if he was not performing well then it is when Blasi can come in and we play with Emerson, Appiah and Blasi as poles and Camoranesi as a playmaker.

as in for this match-up my heart says liverpool because they are underdogs, etc. it would mean so much to Liverpool to make it through, and if they did, Juve would be free to concentrate on the scudetto ;) but my brain says juve because we might beat chelsea, assuming that they make it through

i AGREE with DOMINIC 100%, if anyone saw the milan-man u games he would know wat r we talking about. The thing i really noticed in anfield game was that they were applying alot of pressure from the begining , i know that we cant play the same as milan do in terms of passing but i think if try and focus then we can play that game.
another important thing that capello has to do is that he has to secure the defense first before anything. He has to talk to the back four and also buffon , thuram especially in set pieces

the most important thing is that the players should be alarmed from their performance back in anfield.and that not to take the game as an easy game

also our strikers should have their finishing infront of goal better, cuz i dont think we will have many chances.

what a prediction?
Juve 2- Liverpool 1
Juve won by scoring in extra time again!! haha
anyway, Liverpool is still dangerous without Gerard..they got Biscan which I reckon is a dangerous player..
I think Nedved is way below par this season..hope he can rise his game up!!
GO IBRA+DP+CAMO+NEDVED
