the gap in quality is obvious and the fact that we only beat ourselves only shows the qulity of work conte has done and how better of a group this team is than say madrid. the difference tonight was casillas, had we been up 2-0 i think we would have broken them teh way we did chelsea last year, but iker was really sublime.
Even at 1-1 he pulled two miraculous saves.

That would mean breezing through the group stages with 7-0 scorelines, getting everyone orgasmic about our potential to win it all, and seeing us crushed like termites at the first sign of competition in the elimination rounds.
You do know I was being sarcastic, right?

Wow. Pogba was involved in almost all of our chances. I was so nervous during the game I didn't pay much attention to our build-up play. Great game by Paul.

Casillas was by far the best Real Madrid player on the pitch.

We haven't been convincing in the group stage of the CL since the 96-97 season. In the 97-98 season, we finished as one of the best runners up and barely sneaked into the Quarters. In 98-99, we advanced on goal difference. In 2000-2001, we finished bottom of a group containing illustrious names such as Hamburg, Panathinaikos, and Deportivo. In 2001-2002, we advanced to the 2nd group stage only to finish bottom (again) in a group containing Arsenal, Deportivo, and Leverkusen. In 2002-2003, we struggled to get out of a 2nd stage group containing United, Deportivo (thank you Tudor), and Basel, qualifying only because of our head to head record against Depor and Basel, only to end up reaching the final that same season.

During the Capello era we had an awesome team, did well in the group stages, but never got beyond the Quarters (*cough* Liverpool and Arsenal *cough*). To be fair though, in both those seasons, Liverpool and Arsenal ended up reaching the final, with Liverpool actually winning the trophy :sigh: I forgot to mention that we were incredibly fortunate against Werder in 05-06.

During the Ranieri era, we did well in the group phase, only to end up losing to Chelsea in the 1st knockout round. In the following season, we were embarrassed 1-4 at home to Bayern, unceremoniously dumped out in the first round, in a season in which Inter won the title against the same Bayern team that dismantled us at home :sergio: :wallbang:

Our performance last year was our best in a long while. Let's wait and see what happens this season :D

We never stood a chance anyway.
 You are the one who constantly said that Real will rape us in the two legs but what really happened is we were better than Real Madrid in two halves. We raped them. If not for individual errors and poor finishing we would have overcome their 300M attack.

Yes we are that good.
Then we failed big time.

No shit. Isn't that why we're not that good?

:howler:
We never stood a chance if we had continued our laid back play which caused our players to look like headless chickens.
Anyways - the results against Real wouldn't matter if we did what we was supposed to in the two first games.
Exactly. Our draws against the Danes and the Turks are bigger disappointments than the Real matches.

Thankfully we'll still have a chance to make up for those games. Lets be honest there's arguably only two teams stronger than this Real side in the competition.

Then we failed big time.
We started out on the wrong foot and were not able to make it easier for ourselves. We have only ourselves to blame but it is silly not to mention the potential this team has. I tipped this team to reach the CL final but it only needs some balls and less individual mistakes other than that the team is complete.

And we are extremely lucky that with 3 points in 4 matches we still have a big chance to qualify and it is all in our hands, we are not dependant on any other result.

Hi ...our first half was great ....but i put the blame for the second in general on Conte ...in two things:

Since our team entered the second half ...i felt sloppy and relaxed team ....they just relaxed and moving without any direction ...and once we are under pressure again ...we made it to 2-2.

Conte subs are not great ...once Lorente and Quag in ...our team attack is dead ....i think we should have Govinco as a sub and Tevez stays ...

i'm not satisfied with a draw,as we are the better in both legs ....

Then we have different ideas of what this team is capable of. Under no circumstances I could see us reaching the CL Final unless we are extremely lucky. Considering this season it has become a trend for us making silly mistakes in almost every game, I tend to blame our overall team mentality than just individually. If not Bonucci, it's Chiellini. If it's not Chiellini, it's Buffon. It it's not Buffon, it's Caceres. And so on. Now I fail to believe that all of a sudden, these guys forgot how to pass or make a decent save. Not to mention that even if we strengthened in attack, we're still not prolific enough in front of goal.

I'd be surprised if we managed to advance from the Knockout Stages if we were to pass from the Group Stages in the first place, especially if we won't get another easy opponent like Celtic. There are just so many teams better equipped than us for this Cup.

Thank you. :)

But "With Gareth Bale starting" as an opening headline? Shit, is everything Bale pinches out of his ass worthy of the top headline in England for the locals to masturbate over?

They even jerk off to his being subbed as part of the match "highlights". :sergio:
This is a UK broadcast. Imagine Michael Bradley goes to Real Madrid for €90m, I think one or two US networks might be mentioning it a few million times.

Champions League is unpredictable. It's stupid to write us off already. Assuming that we'll be in the knock-outs, one lucky goal away from home and we can easily eliminate any strong team. This tournament has seen teams less powerfull than Juve to do really well, like Valencia, Dortmund, Porto, Monaco etc.

I dont understand some forum members here.We played really well in the first half .Its really a shame that we did not put a few goals to them. All possible credit goes for Casilas (Marchisio header and other....).The second half was another story.Yes we slow the tempo, maybe that was a mistake but at the end of the day it is ridicilous to think that we will have energy to play 90 minutes like last 30 minutes from the first half.Errors like that of Caceres happens ,he is only human, other than that error he play a decent gameAlso he gave the ball to LLorente to our second goal.I think that Conte should subbed LLorente with Quag earlier not in 81 minute although LLorente scored, and not to call out Tevez,He is and was dangereous always.Anyway generally it was a fair result. We should not lost the first game due to that idiot referee mistakes.
