Short corners can fuck off

Chiellini - 6'1 good at jumping

Bonucci - 6'3 can score headers

Pogba 6'3 and growing. Can jump like mad, great in the air

Llorente - Around 6 foot f*cking 6 and like 215 pounds with a reputation for banging headers in.

Corner? Pass it short, play around, take a punt from outside the box.

Then... one of three things usually happen. It leads to nothing, it wins us another corner OR it deflects back out and we get countered.
I think we were afraid of a quick counter from Ronaldo and Bale. Real defend set pieces very well and I believe they scored lots of goals from counters which followed a set piece clearance. We do play short corners on other matches too, but tonight I could see (from our positioning) that we were thinking more about not being caught on a counter than about crossing the ball in their box.

Anyway, all I ask is that if we end up having to get to Istanbul only needing a draw, we need to go like hell for the win, otherwise, pain will be ours.

Mhm.

Italy 94 WC, Juve UCL final 96 (Juve limped to a win), UCL Final 97, UCL Final 98, UCL Final 03 (one of the most boring finals ever), UCL 05 final, 06 WC (no one knows how Italy won it), Italy 2010 WC,

Italians are not bold in big matches, their conservative approach causes them fail more often than not.
Juve destroyed Ajax in the 96 final, if you've watched it you would know that. As for 97 and 98 - what do you mean? Juve played very aggressive in 97, it was Dortmund who were defensive and cautious and won it in the end. In 98 both teams played very cautiously, Madrid won with an offside goal. In 06 Italy was the best team by far. Agree about 2003.

Is it really too much to ask to go for a 3-2 win at home? Yes a loss would have been risked but when we were pressing in the first half RM looked non-threatening.
RM chickened in the 1st game, but this one was rather different. Now they're the ones basically playing without any pressure. Losing tonight would mean very little to them and it's relatively easy to play in those circumstances.

Well the match was fantastic and entertaining but result is disappointing especially after Gala's slump.

In the first half we played perfectly. This is I wanted to see for a long time. We cut their front line off and put a lot of pressure on their midfield by staying higher up the pitch, Conte got it perfectly right. In the second half we backed off too much and we paid for that. After the first half I hoped Conte finally found a way to play Madrid and then we fucking back off.

Overall I think we're so much better in 433 than in 352. We really made them struggle but we had to pay for our mistakes and there's quite a lot of it. I mean the underdog mentality has gotten into our players way too much. Lippi's Juve when scored an opener got more confidence and kept fighting. Conte's Juve don't have it.
Caceres mistake has its roots in our preparation to the season. It's the second time we play 433 and I don't understand why Conte doesn't use it more often. We don't have players for that formation he says but somehow he realized he can't play 352 vs them which is supposed to be our main formation. Overall our play from the back is not good enough for a club like Juve.
And last but not least is our attacking play. We're not good at creating chances but our finishing is much worse. I don't know how Conte does finishing trainings with our players but it's not working at all. We're too slow while attacking and our players aren't able to take on their man to get a fk or simply some advantage. I've been calling for a winger for months and I hope we finally get one. Lippi's Juve had Nedved and Camoranesi (who didn't cost too much so money argument is not valid here) who were fantastic, current Juve lacks proper wingers/attackers.

Overall I think this match has a lot of good things left for us but there's a lot of work to do to be truly a CL contender team. Current CL campaign is very disappointing though.

it was more like a 4-1-4-1 when you looked at it really

I don't think that we were protecting the result. We knew that 2:2 and 2:3 are almost the same. I think that it had more to do with us not being able to push for a third goal. Our legs betrayed us in the last 15 minutes. Especially the midfielders were exhausted. That tempo in the first half took its tool. We've seen it in serie A lots of times when teams give their all against us in the opening 45 minutes. Usually they collapse in the second half.

P.S: And perhaps the result from Denmark was something our players were aware of. If Gala equalized and we lost in the last 5 minutes, we'd have had to win or get a high scoring draw in Istanbul.

great game, second half we slowed down and allowed them back into the game, but we responded well after bale's goal. Casillas and Pepe saved them tbh.

Pathetic second half display, the game was there to be won but we refused to do so. Fact is madrid don't respond well to pressure. The likes of xabi alonso and khedira aren't all that good in tight spaces so they struggle as a side when the opposition pressed. We did that in the first half and dominated, it was just down to finishing and sloppy play we weren't winning and then the second half came.

Horrible stuff by the team. These tactics of standing off from opposition teams are becoming redundant by the day and I fail to understand how serie a teams aren't seeing that. You simply win the ball too deep and then struggle to launch a counter which leads to even more pressure, really pathetic stuff.

Thought our main problem today was that so many of our key players were having off nights. Tevez and vidal particularly were not on their game. This nullified our attacking game by a lot considering how much they add in this phase of play. Our defence looked dodgy all night and its times like this when we as an organisation have to realise that we have to move towards getting more athletic defenders who can cope with quicker players.

Marchiso was awol again, I honestly didn't expect any different and pirlo got worse as the game went on. That threw us off our game completely because pirlo and pogba were having a good night in the first.

We aren't gonna be catching up to the elite in football if we have second halves like those. What these games should've showed people is that we aren't that far in reality. A few quality footballers and the exclusion of clowns like caseres would go a long way in helping us.

Bonucci score headers  for a tall player like him he's one of the worst, can't direct a header on target at all.

..plus Ramos is one of the best headers of the ball... Pepe, Khedira, Alonso (was beating Pogba to goalkicks) nullify any threat for corner crosses... and ofcourse RM main threat: counterattack.

I'm not sure our first half efforts robbed us of energy later in the game. We basically came out flat in the second half and remained flat throughout. It comes down to mentality again.

I cant deny that I'm sad about the result but I think there's hope. A win against Copenhagen and draw against GS should be possible imo.
