If anyone believes that we are in the same league with teams like Real, then why should we lose ANY games in the first round ????

Just read we have the second worst away record in the history of the cl and Raul is the highest goal scorer with 34 goals with Jardel second with 9 goals behind

Why, you ask, because we are different teams. Real is like Spain, they will always come out with all guns blazing, but Juventus is like Italy and we start slowly, but build steam.

The bad news, in case you haven't noticed, is that Real learnt to win even when they play bad. Ie. the produce luck when they need it. Take the CL final, European SuperCup, the Roma game, all below par but they still won.

Not that I think we could beat them right now but if we were to, we'd have to make use of our chances just as well as they do, which I haven't seen much of lately..

I beg to differ Ian, Juve under Lippi always start brightly, lose thier way in the middle then finish strongly but by the middle phase, you could be out of Cl

That doesn't mean that it will be the same this year. If there is one good thing that you can say about Lippi, it's that he learns from his mistakes.

Like when has he learnt from mistakes, it didn't take long for him to start feuding with some of his players who have big egos, did it
Or that his teams always start a game very brighlty and lose their way in the second half.

I do not know but i do not really see our team as having a good enough midfield to really make an impact against the big guns

Your probably right denco. the only way we are going to beat one of the big teams, like Real for example is to either have incredibly good luck, or to reinforce the midfield.

There's no way Zambrotta, Tacchinardi, Davids and Nedved are as good as Figo, Zidane, Solari and Cambiasso

The rest of the team matches up well however.

Gigi V casillas/cesar we win this one

Thuram V Salgado on form, thuram wins
Pessotto V carlos OK they can have this one!
Montero & Tudor V Hierro and pavon easy...:D
DP V Raul ..oooh close one..I'll be biased and say DP
Trez V Ronnie/Morientes I think Ronnie will most likely be injured and Trez is better than Morientes

so overall i think out team, if on form, is more than a match for real..just the midfield and lack of depth in that area that lets us down.

Let's be a little more realistic.

They have players in every position that are at least as good as our players, if not better.

However, this does not mean that we can not beat them.

we have much much better defence then real and if we can neutralize thier attacking players and show our defensive power we can score and win maybe 1-0 2-1 or even 2-0.
i don't think we have such a louzy midfield-

davids better then cambiaso even if he is less attacking player.
zambrotta, tacchinardi, olivera, baiocco and conte can equal to thier less famous midfield players
zidane better then nedved but zidane is better from almost every player and nedved took leadership and done preety good/
they have figo and mekelele but as i said we can neutrolize them

I don't know where people get the idea that Real has a poor defence, I just can't see it. They have Helguerra, and Hierro, and Pavon, and I can't even remember all the other good defenders that they have, and they always play well when I watch them.

Never thought I'd hear that from a Barca fan;)

But seriously their defence is good. Maybe cos they play too much attacking that people think otherwise...hmmm..

Like I've said before, my adoration of Barcelona does not cloud my judgement of Real, like it does for most Barca fans.

And maybe, they do have one weakness, which is Roberto Carlos.

I too think Roberto Carlos is a weakness. Sure, he is a great player, but he is far too attack minded for my tastes. If you watch Real games, it seems most of the oppositions chances come from his side of the field. I would really want him on my team, and if I did I would make it so he had very few defensive responsiblities, Real gives him too many.
