Not that i'm a fan of it, but I think It's more about having balanced WB's (one defensive minded, one offensive minded) D.Alves looks to be a starter no matter what, so he's gonna pair him with Evra.

IF this is the case, he should have included Licht in the CL squad since he is the only defensive minded RB we can pair with Alex Sandro...

HE LOVES THIS GAME!

how can you hate him?
That cant be it alone since both Sandro and Alves played together in league. That was his M.O last season, one defensive one offensive, but its retarded if it remains for this season because Sandro and Alves are just heads and shoulders above their competition.

We're already playing with 3CBs... do we really need a defensive LB in addition to a wingback? Against Dinamo Zagreb of all teams

Besides, AS is not inferior to Evra defensively, and if Max tells him to sit back more I'm sure he will.

And A.Sandro is very good defensively, never seen him being dominated on his flank other than the last 30 min of the bayern game where he was up against a fresh Coman.

Squad management, I bet Allegri wants Evra to feel important considering he's an integral part of the dressing room.

Regardless he should do that in Serie A not in the CL. Otherwise we're losing out on the pitch when it matters for poor reasons

Nah.

Sandro is a lot of things, but very good defensively is definitely not one of them. Quite the opposite, he's often struggling with his positioning.

You're watching the wrong player.
Try watching a game in the stadium, where you get a better overview of the entire pitch.

It's simply baffling how often Sandro isn't where he's supposed to be on our side of the pitch. He does seem to be improving in that regard, however.

But it's not like Evra is more reliable these days (quite the contrary), so I'm all for Sandro getting the nod.

Btw, a small example of what playing like shit does for the club. After the Sevilla and Palermo shitshows, brazillian TV decided to broadcast live, besides Real, fucking Leicester, instead of Juve.

I can see it on TV just fine. You don't get great defenders on today's football but to today's standard he's above average in both defensive and offensive aspects of the game. Reads the game well, tracks back well, good at tackling and putting pressure on his adversary, not to mention his effort going forward with precise skill and ability. You can't really get much better than him at his role.

Its not about if hes good defensively or not, this is not a skill issue but a playing style one. AS plays very high for us, leaving a lot if space behind. him and DA act as wingers in our 352 most of the time. Evra wont play as high as AS usually does, he will mostly stay back allowing Pjanic to go forward more and DA to play like he usually does, and make runs into space when there is an opening. DA plays very high, so with another offensive minded WB we would get exposed on the counter, the only way we can concede in this game. Doesent have to mean its the correct decision, we will see that after the game is over, its just the reason why we do it

All our width comes from our wingbacks (and Dybala). If we have Evra sitting back we have little threat from the left.

I understand the concern of playing two offensive fullbacks usually, but not in a 3-5-2 where the fullbacks are supposed to provide the threat from the wings. If you don't want to play them together then drop one CB.

Exactly. That explanation is only valid for 2 CBs. 352's own reasoning goes through wingbacks offense.

Any average lb can do what Evra does - sidepass and backpass for 90 min.
