He's still very much a beast, especially in the big games, he's definitely in the top 5 currently.

Kompany has been a joke for a while now, his name should not be mentioned anywhere near the top 5.

I agree with Seven on Ramos, even though he makes the occasional silly mistake, he is in general a very good defender.
what about Miranda then? has he declined since last season? if he plays on a similar level he did last year, then id put him above Ramos

IMO Miranda isn't as good as he was last year, but mostly due to injuries probably. He's sometimes left on the bench in a few games this season for the youngster Giminez.

Not too bad in general, I'm not sure whether Benatie really belongs tier one though, hasn't been that good with Bayern imo.

With Barzagli, it really depends how his injury has affected him, but we'll see. And I'd put Pique a tier lower definitely.
we already saw Barzagli play after the injury, he was as great as always

too bad, i really liked him in the CL last season. never understood how him and Filipe Luis didnt make the WC squad for Brazil as they both were key members in the best defensive team of that season. they had Maxvell and Henrique instead :sergio:

Badstuber was a beast too pre-injury.
not a beast exactly, but he did play great before his 1st injury. when he recovered, he got injured again for a whole season after playing 2-3 games. really hard to bounce back from that

he was starting for the NT and Bayern under Heynckes. excellent passer and also improved a lot defensively in that season before he got injured. he was the best german CB at that time IMO, hope he can recover his form again

Fred, how are the rumors around Dybala received amongst the arsenal fanbase ?

How serious are they taking them

Ya, feckin Scolari looked like he didn't really follow European football :p

Unfortunately the Arsenal forum I regularly read comprises of mostly British posters(Arsenal-Mania) so I tend not to take their views on football outside of England and especially Italian football too seriously tbh. I've said this many times, but people in this forum should feel blessed, you do not find the diversity of people and opinions in other forums as much as you do here. One of the reasons I really enjoy posting on these forums.

To answer your question, I think they are taking it quite seriously because it looks like we are genuinely interested, most of the posters haven't really watched him play though, and because he plays in Italy very few have ever heard of him. Though to be honest, most Arsenal fans feel there is a genuine need for a striker, despite the purple patch Giroud is currently going through.

Yeah he did get a little of it, although it's extremely easy to see how you would not see that touch either in front (ref) or behind (5th official) the play. From the angle facing Neuer you can't even see it on the replay.

What? He doesn't even get close to the ball. Although the striker embellished some.
Nah he does get a touch with the bottom of his boot, literally as soon as Martinez knocks it past him, it's very difficult to see but the 3rd angle on that vid shows it best. Notice how the ball went away to a 90° right angle from Martinez, that's not just his own touch.

Hummels in the top 5 and HE also listed Ramos.
Last year's Barzagli would undoubtedly find his place among top 5 CBs of today. But his fitness is an issue, age as well and he severely lacks sharpness due to long term absence. Forgot to place Godin in that list and Benatia is very close to top 5, but he as well struggled with injuries. Hummels is fine CB, good passing abilities, elegant tackler and less prone to errors than Boateng for instance; the later is an utter disgrace, borderline insult to some of the CBs of the past. His abysmal showing last night wasn't surprising at all. Luiz is more of a midfielder than a CB, his defensive set of skills, positioning and tackling most notably, are non existent.

I actually rate Ramos quite highly in the pecking order, despite you an I having disagreements regarding Spaniard. Wouldn't mind having a player of his qualites here, on the bench as a backup for vastly superior CBs like Bon bon and Chiello; alongside Padoin he could blossom into rather nice alternative. Won't bore you with scrubs like Pique or Kompany that are Serie B quality, therefore shouldn't be evaluating their defensive capabilities in a serious manner.

Tier 1 - Barzagli, Godin, Thiago Silva, Benatia
Tier 2 - Terry, Boateng, Sergio Ramos, Hummels, Bonucci, Chiellini, Pique, Kompany
Tier 3 - Dante, Pepe, Garay, David Lulz, Subotic, Cahill, Varane, Howedes
More or less. Worth nothing 3/4 of those top CBs have made their name in Serie A.

The league puts out flops when it comes to forwards, but at least it's developing some nice defenders.
