Kompany :wth:

what happened to Godin? havent watched him this season but he was a beast in 13/14
He's still very much a beast, especially in the big games, he's definitely in the top 5 currently.

Kompany has been a joke for a while now, his name should not be mentioned anywhere near the top 5.

I agree with Seven on Ramos, even though he makes the occasional silly mistake, he is in general a very good defender.

Even worse, he has been a brand for a while now. I get that you want to show the world you're more than a football player, but much to his dismay, Kompany is not as intelligent as he thinks he is. He's of average intelligence, which ranks him as supersmart among his peers, but he consistenly forgets just how much smarter people who actually studied really are and gets caught in endless debates he's bound to lose. This guy should focus on playing football. Now.

Not too bad in general, I'm not sure whether Benatie really belongs tier one though, hasn't been that good with Bayern imo.

With Barzagli, it really depends how his injury has affected him, but we'll see. And I'd put Pique a tier lower definitely.

I find it odd to see Barzagli in so many lists. He's a good defender don't get me wrong, but athletically he's not particularly developed. If you look at Thiago Silva or Ramos and compare them to Barzagli I think the difference is vast. And it's not as if those two can't play football either.

I wouldnt place Jompany on the same tier as Hummels and Chiellini nowadays tbh
I know, but I'm going for an overall picture. I wouldn't place Chiellini on the same tier as Chellini right now, but these players have achieved things and a certain level.

I just think Benatia is a real beast, the only one who matched up to Barzagli in Serie A.

Barzagli, at least the three season prior to this one (this year he's had three games or something, too little to judge on) was definitely up there with the top 3. He might not be as athletically outstanding (though he's a lot faster than people give him credit for and strong enough), but his positioning is impeccable, and, perhaps more importantly, he literally never fucks up. Don't remember even one instance (except once with the Azzurri in some friendly/qualifier) where he lost his concentration.

He was with Roma, but hasn't quite been able to match this standard with Roma. Don't get me wrong, he's still a WC defender, just not among the very top imo.

last year, barzagli was probably the best CB in the world, and for me it's all about getting the job done.
