Any team from Pot 1 would be extremely difficult, especially for a team like us.

However I think we got a good pick still. We hit probably right in the middle of the spectrum in terms of difficulty.

Tier 1 - Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid
Tier 2 - Atletico Madrid, Arsenal
Tier 3 - Porto, Benfica
THIS. :agree:

1-1 draw with Malmo.
Olympiakos will be another Galatasaray scenario.

DO you always have to be a douche here? Seriously, the endless nonsense and negative garbage spewed by you is just a little ridiculous.

we shouldn't be afraid of athletico. sure they are a good team but ffs so are we. i think after last season's disaapointing performances everyone here is seriously underestimating the quality of our players.

It's hard to trust our defence nowadays, individual mistakes cost us a ticket back home. No matter how much we added to the frontline (we really didn't but...), our problems at the back need to be fixed and it's not very assuring when you have the same players from last year.

i'm with you. let's hope ogbonna's confidence problems are gone, and chiellini ets back in form. bonucci should never play

if worse comes to worse just play vidal in defense and asa in mid. they would do better than dumb and dumber

So tired of the individual mistake excuses. Almost all goals conceded are due to individual mistakes when you think about it. Yet other defenders and teams are put on blast here whenever they concede.

If only he was the only one who does it
Yes. I mean, it's alright to jest about it on occasion, but this endless daily nonsense, with the little army of members that do nothing but complain and whine about Juve and everything related, it's cringeworthy, on an epic scale. :sergio:

This is just it. Our problem generally hasn't been one of conceding too many goals anyways, it's more so not scoring enough. It's not like there weren't defensive errors by players from Gala, Real, Benfica, etc when we scored on them last year. We were just too toothless in attack, and often too passive with our strategies to outscore them. We played rather defensively against certain opponents without a strong enough backline to win that way.

It's no excuse. Chiellini's red and Caceres give away were huge factors in our elimination. There are some mistakes that are simply individuals. Doesn't mean the rest of the team were not to blame for the outcome after the 6 group matches.

I can't think of a single team that hasn't conceded a penalty. Calling it an individual mistake sounds like such a cop-out. How about saying Chiellini and Caceres just aren't that good? Or that our defense wasn't organized properly? Or that our coach didn't trust our attack and midfield enough and let our defenders play tiki taka with themselves?

Chiellini's penalty was also highly debatable.

I also don't like to put all the pressure on just our defenders when we talk about defending when teams like Atletico Madrid defend with literally every single player. I wonder what Barzagli and Chiellini would look like with those midfielders and strikers pressing the shit out of everyone in front of them.

As a team unit, I think we have a lot to improve defensively. Our defensive record in Serie A is mostly due to high ball possession (and the league). Our #1 defense was ball possession and then in Europe it was a pretty standard 5-3-2 with no hope for a counter and no strategic pressing.
