Its not the same as the likes of City and PSG transformed to rich clubs just like that from one day to another.

I'm not saying that Arabs are killing the game but I do understand people feeling that way.
Well perhaps they know that the Platini plan will take effect in a couple of years and they're trying to build up their teams quickly for that. Plus the world have changed today than 70-80 years ago when pace of business and companies were much slower.

To them (Arabs) it's an investment just like any investment, eventually they want to make profits (perhaps few years down the road). That's the goal of every investor out there...

Let me ask you, would you buy newest gold plated ferarri for investment, or there might be any other motives involved?

It's not necessary they buy these clubs as investments only.

For most of the arabs investing, it is definitely not an investment...do you really believe that the city owner will make any return on the 1 billion + spent? Do you think PSG owners will make a return on the 500 million or so spent??

Maybe they just buy teams for fun.

Or as a birthday gift to their childs. When you have that amount of money only the imagination's the limit.

It's not investment, it's about prestige and showing power. You don't make money from football.

Also I think there are at least a few people involved in each case who actually like football.

No offense but :howler: do you seriously believe that ESPN are into that business because they cared for the fans. It's all about money, it's always been and it always will be for companies around the world (and individuals too).

The whole (Arabs are killing the game with their money talk) atleast to me is a Joke !! The Agnelli's made Juve head and shoulders ahead of every Italian club for decades by using their financial superiority over everyone else, same can be said about every major club out there in Europe. But I don't see no body complaining about it (perhaps because it's fine as long as Europeans are owning these clubs but not the dirty Arabs ).
:agree:

And Aljazeera is great, 100 USD/year and you get to watch any football league in the world, NBA, Tennis....WC, Euro, coppa america, CAN, anything related to sport really.

And you should know that when Al jazeera first started they wanted to make all their channels free for arab viewers but other companies that owned the right to games objected because it will kill their business and Al jazeera decided to charge a small fee.

It's not about a direct return on investments anyway with these clubs. It's about obtaining a foothold in Europe, future possibilities.

Recently read an interesting article about the new owners of PSG. Amazing how these can be linked to dozens of other clubs, organizations, etc.

Some people make money off football. I think last year teams like Calgari etc. did decently for their owners. But their level of ambition is not compatible with the Arab investors. Their main motivation is, like others have said, gaining a new toy. After buying islands, planes and women, few things remain when you sit on a big pile of oil dosh.

Incidentally, A few top clubs do actually turn profits. What they share however are two things: 1. Roughly a century of consistent sporting success and 2. they aren't owned by a sugar daddy. Barca, Real, Arsenal, Bayern and United (the coming year, at least) all turn profits, due to insane revenue.

City's and PSG's long term budgeting indicates that they will turn profits as a hilarious attempt to placate Platini and his raised FFP finger. But those budgets border on fairy tales when it comes to revenue growth. I can't remember the exact figures but the revenue growth that City and PSG "expect" is absolutely insane. Real Madrid, for example, didn't get to a yearly commercial revenue of €170M overnight - that took decades and decades of winning.

From what I saw, ESPN made sports easily available to everyone. You could watch any games on their website for free ffs. Why doesn't Al Jazeera do something like that? It's not like they don't have the technology or ideas. They just want to run a monopoly on shit.

Why didn't they make it $1/year?

I'm pretty sure all of Real, Barca and United have debt. Bayern maybe not. Arsenal definitely not.

Are you Arab, only-Juve?
:agree: an Iraqi but honestly I'm not defending them just because I'm one of them, but I truly think that people underrate them a lot.

It depends on their goal and strategy, perhaps their goal is to use these clubs as a marketing tool for their other major investments (ex: emirates airlines) you never really know.

For most of the arabs investing, it is definitely not an investment...do you really believe that the city owner will make any return on the 1 billion + spent? Do you think PSG owners will make a return on the 500 million or so spent??
I work in the real estate business so atleast I can explain it from my experience in that area. There are properties in some part of the world (London, manhattan...) that are being sold for 500-800 millions some are actually worth over a billion $ (and that's just 1 building) why would you think any company or individual in his right mind would buy such properties when the return on such properties is as low as 2-3% annually ?

Do you think those people are spending all that money just for fun (by the way many of these companies are Chinese, Malaysian or south east Asian companies/individuals in general). They're not doing it for fun but they know that the upside rents for these properties in the future (perhaps 20-30 years) is huge, it may not look like a great investment right now but perhaps 30 years down the road people will look back and think that these were really great investments.

Same principal can be applied to football too perhaps or to any other investment.

Al Jazeera is without doubt the greatest sports channel right now(at least for football), no arguing with that at all. Cheesio is right.
