That was an absolutely dreadful performance. There is an under 10s team that play in the second division in my cities southside league that would genuinely muster up a shot on goal against Atletico between them.

I genuinely think we should sign that Under 10s team now and wait 8 years for some mediocrity in the Champions League.

Llorentes can suck my dick.

Ok performance, deserved a draw but didn't commit enough players forward to really go for it. Neither did Atlético but for a 10-15 min spell second half, and their goal came when we looked pretty comfortable.

But we knew they score goals from set pieces and balls into the box so there was always the chance they might nick one, which is why you often need to grab a goal to get a draw.

I was impressed with Atlético in how they set up and how horrible, disgusting and conniving they were all over the pitch, but not with their quality. The ref also played right into their hands, he didn't look like he had a clue how to control a match which turned into a latin bitch fest, and we got dragged down to all that conning the ref nonsense that seems to follow all the big Spanish games these days.

:agree: We just need to get maximum points against the Greeks. The next two games will show if we have changed mentality in Europe. I would like to see 4-3-3 or a variant, Morata and Coman need minutes.

The fact the ball hardly stays in play and the constant stop start nature of Atletico's game must help them maintain that level of intensity as they seem to be able to do it week in week out.

1-0 loss is fine and all, but 0 shots on target and 0 shots from the penalty box is something to be really concerned about. We can't seem to able to creat anything with a team that defends and presses well. We should have gone all out on this game, trying to attack and score since we had nothing to lose.

Now we have to get 4 points against Olympiacos to assure our progress. I wish allegri starts changing the 3-5-2 soon. First semi chance we had was when peryera was introduced at the right wing/behind the strikers, when he played a great ball to lichstiener.

just noticed that they got away with 2 yellow cards...
they certainly made the most out of our fouls and the ref was happy to play along.

I think that target men is a pass tense. A big striker should no longer only possess good aerial ability or strong body. What's needed is also good speed, technique and tactical awareness.

Big strikers that are more than just target men:
Falcao, Mandzukic, Drogba, Lukaku.

Big strikers who are only target men and will be outdated soon:
Amauri, balotelli, llorente

Looking at how we have start the season , without conceding goals in Serie A and coming back from a record breaking Serie A campaign, this is truly disappointing. Not to forget, Atletico is a team that had most of their top players sold over the summer. Not having a single show on target really shows our real problem that we lack options on the bench and also for starting eleven.

We only have two creative force which is Pirlo and Tevez, and even if we had Pirlo yesterday I think he would have harder time compared to Marchisio with ATM overcrowding him and hunting down in packs. The goal is a reminiscent of how Italy have concede , and if we insist on building from the back, we have to drop Chiellini. He and Lich are partly on fault for the goal. Even, when ATM scored the goal, I was pretty sure we would never been able to get a goal. We lack ideas and options. Losing out on another top notch attacker on the summer is evident now.
Apart from that, I think Llorente did his game well, he is there as a build up player and bring other players into the game which I think he did well, but the midfielders were no where to appear yesterday. Vidal and Pogba was missing from the game. And Morata, he is not a top player yet, just a potential and he lacks physicality to play as a hold up attacker at the current point.

Lesson learn, we need some creative idea and the defense needs some change. Moving forward, looking at the fixtures we should be winning all our remaining games, with the tough one is against ATM in our own backyard.

Yeah, Llorente has been terrible this year. Morata's been given 5 minutes at a time. If they give the kid some time, maybe he'll get into form for the next game.

What we really need are some attacking mfs/wingers...

It gives us so many more options...
Coman is a possibility...if you're Lazio

For a team that's going to compete in all 3 major competitions, you're going to need a talented left-footed attacking MF and a right-footed one.

On the left we could probably make due with Giovinco/Coman (albeit that wouldn't be ideal), but on the right? I don't think we have one left-footed attacker. That's a glaring hole.

The team needs to invest in world class attackers. Midfield is undoubtedly important but when you have:
Vidal, Pogba, Asamoah, Marchisio, Pirlo, Pereyra, Romulo who all play the same position as their primary position, its time to re-evaluate.

Juventus financially is in ok shape, they can buy a couple of players.

Hypothetically, let's say the team buys:
-Marco Reus
-Xherdan Shaqiri

Suddenly, you can effectively use any formation with wing play. It's time to save up the Euros and make 1-2 big transfers. If you have to sell Vidal or Marchisio, sell Vidal or Marchisio (I know people will hate me for this), but frankly, we have SO MANY CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS. It's actually pretty ridiculous. Between Pereyra, Pirlo, and Asamoah, we'll be ok. What we don't have are attacking midfielders, and it's a pretty important position.
made the whole post sound ridiculous :D

I was impressed with Atlético's game. How quickly they are able to change from defense into attack and vice-versa is very impressive as is their pressing. They did give us a lot of time on the ball which I guess they can afford to do when they are so well organised defensively. Arda Turan was also a massive pain in the ass, he played well. Their goal was their best chance and it wasn't even a very good one. I'd say we deserved a draw there.

For our part we struggled to create anything, really. We fought hard but the passing and shooting technique from Vidal and Pogba just wasn't there. Llorente did a good job holding the ball up but it became frustrating to see him end up losing the ball either because he had no option or because he miscontrolled it. Chiellini did a great job I thought and that was his best performance so far this year.

I didn't see the players smiling after losing the game but that is absolutely not acceptable. Neither is picking up so many yellow cards in one game. I hope this seemingly relaxed discipline doesn't start to affect results (of course it hasn't yet, but I'm concerned)

One thing I was impressed with was the fact that we were hardly threatened on the counter considering Atletico is a very strong counter-attacking team.
That's one reason why we took the ball and slowed possession a lot of the time. We'll probably see the same again against Roma.
