The fact that they won doesn't disguise the fact that the current batch of Azzurri defenders is possibly the worst in over 2 decades!

They didn't win when they had Maldini and Baresi, so being the best doesn't always entitle you to victory.

Oh, and btw Ferrara needs to go and learn the ropes someplace else; Juventus is not a training ground. I wish for him to be a great coach in the future, but for now he is a disaster, and I, for one, am not willing to allow him to destroy this team any further!

I agree, as much as it pains me to say. I was rooting hard for the man.

I still think some day he will be a competent manager, but it's obvious it was a huge mistake to give him the job this soon.

I agree, the fact that 3 of our defenders will play in the next world cup doesn't say much really. Italy have a shortage of "quality" defenders for quiet some time now (last 4-5 years).

It's a cycle IMO, 10 years ago italy had probably the best attackers + defenders in the game yet they had a very average (sometimes below average) midfielders back then.

Right now they have a pretty decent number of quality midfielders but they lack great attackers and defenders.

Cyrus.. I remember last year when I was pissed cuz Ranieri played with 6 defensive players on the pitch(back 4 and 2 defensive midfielders) and only 4 going up but Cyrus is worse, he was actually playing with 8(!!!!!!!) defensive players today.
