Ferrara must be defended, says Vialli

Ciro Ferrara should be better defended by the Juventus board, according to club legend and former team-mate Gianluca Vialli.
The rookie coach is under increasing pressure after a run of five defeats in six games knocked Juventus out of contention for the Champions League and Scudetto.
He has resolved not to resign amid reports the Bianconeri are sounding out replacements with Guus Hiddink and Luiz Felipe Scolari both rejecting approaches from the Turin giants.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vialli said: “Ferrara should work so he can say: this is who we are and we do it better than anybody. This is how you rally the players and how results and performances arrive. Instead, for now, Juventus are still a work in progress.”
Asked if it's a bit late for a turnaround considering the club's elimination from the Champions League, Vialli replied: “Yes, but four years ago Juve were in Serie B and it takes time to return to certain levels.
“Once made the decision to support Ferrara should be supported. You cannot expect roses and flowers to bloom quickly.”
Vialli then reflected on the board's decision to bring back Roberto Bettega as a technical director.
“Honestly I don't know [what Juventus need]. They have changed Presidents, counsellors, coaches, and now Bettega arrives.
“From a certain point of view the courage to change and put yourself in discussion is appreciable,” Vialli concluded.

Perhaps the board thought that Scolari retained some heart and passion for management, and so the offer of the juve job would pluck at his heart strings, and also, he would be a prime candidate, potentially, for improving the performances of our latin american facets...
Either way, if they did speak with him, im not sure they did anythong other than speak to his agent, who spoke to Felipe, who then made a statement, its a poor show for someone. Either them or our board. But it at least shows that we are looking for a new manager. Bad, but perfectly reasonable news for Ciro, and like someone else has mentioned, i am sure they would have told him.
However, the point is, where does this leave us?
With ciro running a squad knowing that whatever he is trying to train them into, will be futile if, or when, another coach arrives? Which means all he can do is keep them fit...also, any lingering sense of trust in CIro from the players would vanish, as they know that their bosses dont want their coach anymore.
If this drags on, we are fucked. All its done, essentially, is add impetus to the need to get someone in. We are no longer speculating, we are now desperate...
Though I seriously am unsure as to whether Scolari has simply misinterpreted, intentionally or otherwise, news from his agent that Juve were sounding him out...but if that were the case, would we not have seen by now the board deny the offer?????

Scolari just wants a few minutes in the spotlight it seems. What other reason could there possibly be for him to come out with these statements? I for one would be very surprised if we did approach him. He never really struck me as an "honest" man anyway, so I can't say I'm surprised.
Not too sure about Zoff either. Sure, he'll command respect, but he strikes me as another "old" Italian manager with a lack of flexibility. I could be wrong though.

Whats up with this random people defending Ciro? They guy is clueless, nothing works and he's failed miserably at basically everything. Players are used wrong(Melo), we're losing to awful teams and we're out of the Champions League. He lost 7 games(!!) in just a half season with players like Melo, Diego, Cannavaro, Grosso and Caceres, all an upgrade from what Ranieri had last season. And Ranieri never lost this many games with players like Molinaro, Legro and Grygera in the team.
You can't put the blame on the players. Players like Melo and Diego were considered one of the best last season and they were doing great, you can't just go from that to playing as awful as they are doing today, its definitely Ciro's fault.

At first everything was good (great even imo). Then there came a time when everything turned to shit: Ranieri lost the dressing room and had to be replaced. It was his fault we weren't performing anymore & the players were never criticised.
Ferrara takes over, does good for a little while. Things turn to shit: it's his fault and we should replace him. We, once again, should not blame the players for this.
I just can't agree with that anymore. I'll be the first to admit that I wanted Ranieri out late last season. It was obvious we couldn't continue any longer. It never really crossed my mind back then that there may have been a problem with our group of players, since it was really the first time that we played in such a lacklustre way for many consecutive games.
Fast forward to today and we are, once again, playing lacklustre, as if we don't even care.
This group of players does not deserve a 2nd free pass, only a couple months after the Ranieri dismissal.
Note: I'm not sure about Ferrara's qualities as a manager and I don't want to defend him (especially since he has made some weird decisions/choices) but I for one am sick of the fact that Ciro (or the management) has to shoulder all the blame, while our team of primadonna football players have done very little so far (this season) to earn their hefty pay checks (some players excluded obviously).
