Who is to blame for our recent performances? Is it Ferrara? The players? The management? Guus Hidink

??
Seriously, Its a combination. Alot of blame is going to Ferrara because he is the one getting all the heat. But honestly, I don't think it is entirely his fault. I did say this in another thread by I will elaborate here abit. Till June 2006 we were the strongest force in Italy, and in 2003 we were the strongest team in Europe (ok we lost to Milan in the final in PKs but we won the league, so I'd definitely say we were the strongest).
The difference between the 2003 club and the 2009 club is huge.
------------ ---- Pre 2006 --------- post 2006
Owners ---- Mostly Agnelli ------- Elkann
President -----Giraudo ---------- Coboli Gigli
Director ------ Bettega ---------- Blanc
Manager ------ Moggi ---------- Secco
Coach ----- Lippi/Capello---- Ranieri/Ferrara
Last two seasons we had Ranieri at helm. Although I don't agree with his negative approach to almost every game, he was an experienced coach. Someone who has been coaching for almost two decades. He knew how to make a somewhat stable team. And honestly, with the squad he had at his disposal I don't think he did so much worse than Capello. His first season was highlighted with the immense injustice by the referees against us where all statistics pointed to us winning the scudetto if it wasn't for the "honest mistakes" by the officials. He got us to the CL, and following season he got us into the knockout stage but his negativity towards his chances in the scudetto were so bad it affected the players psychology and hence his approach to every game after the Chelsea loss was disastrous.
Back to the topic, Ranieri's presence somewhat covered for good part of the managements inexperience behaviors. I was and still am WITH firing Ranieri. It was obvious that he did not believe in the squad and was too negative to the clubs ambitions. Never the less, he did his part in rebuilding the team after 2006.
After the last 1/4 suffer of last season the management decided that the team lacked spirit. And they felt that it would be a bad idea to bring in someone who is so emotional and ambitious. They thought that this could help the team more than experience. I think firing Ranieri two games before the end of the season was not because of his poor display? It was mostly to give Ferrara an audition. See if he can bring in the spirit back. And he did.
Supported by the Guardiola effect they decided to give him the job. Milan did the same with Leonardo. The difference in Ferrara's case is that he was ALONE. In Milan and Barcelona, both rockies had the support of a very experienced management, while in Juventus Ferrara did not have anyone to help him. The football expert in the management was Secco. And we all know he is anything but that.
When you hire a rookie coach like Ferrara, Leonardi and Guardiola, you are investing in this coach. You don't bring him just to try him out for a season. You are getting this coach to stay with you for at least 4 years. And you would want to have all the resources to make this coach good. Ferrara obviously does not have anyone to give him advice or support him. I reckon if Ferrara was serving under the Triade management his performance would have been much different. At least they would have advised him against going out to the media on certain occasions.
We have the youngest inexperienced management in the who league, if not in europe. On paper we are doing alright for the resources we have. BUT on paper we are also JUVENTUS FC. The greatest club in Italian History. Everyone should be demanding winning. And for us to do so, we need experienced management to start with. We need Executives, directors, and managers who are really into the game. Ofcourse we always need to support experience with new blood, but experience has to always be there.
If the management believes in Ferrara's abilities, then he should stay, BUT UNDER ONE CONDITION. He should have the support any young coach should get. He should have a management ready with advise whenever he needs it. Bringing names like Bettega and Lippi into the management is a good start. But we really need those people to start come NOW if we are to salvage any kind of decency this season.
