Italian champions Juventus are today being linked with Brazil’s attacking right-back Cicinho.

The Sao Paulo player is widely considered as Marcos Cafu’s heir in the national side and has caught the attention of numerous clubs.

Cicinho, who is on the verge of gaining EU status thanks to his Italian roots, recently impressed at the Confederations’ Cup in Germany.

It was believed that Milan would make a move for the defender but the Old Lady of Italian football have emerged as contenders on Friday.

Although he recently extended his contract with his South American club until 2008, he would consider a European switch – even if that is only likely to happen next summer.

Whispers suggest that any proposed deal would cost any interested party a total of £8m, with 40 per cent of that fee going directly to the player.

The Bianconeri are looking for a new right-back and have been linked with numerous players this summer.

Lazio’s Massimo Oddo has been associated, as has Portuguese international Miguel of Benfica.

Juventus’ current first choice right-sided defender is former Cagliari and Roma player Jonathan Zebina.

This is the exact opposite of a typical Moggi transfer. Besides, as said above, 8 million pounds (12M euro) is WAY too much money for an unproven player.

Cicinho, esterno del San Paolo, come comunitario potrebbe arrivare subito.
La Juve sta valutando la possibilità di entrare in gioco nella corsa a Cicinho (25 anni), esterno destro del San Paolo e della nazionale carioca, protagonista alla recente Confederations Cup e indicato da tutti come il naturale erede di Cafu (per ammissione anche del giocatore rossonero).

Cicinho ha appena rinnovato fino al dicembre 2008 il suo contratto con il San Paolo, ha spiegato che preferisce restare nella sua squadra fino al Mondiale tedesco, ma sa bene dell'interesse di molti club europei, soprattutto italiani. Peraltro, Cicinho ha avviato la pratica per il passaporto comunitario (ha discendenze italiane). Proprio questo dettaglio riveste una grande importanza: Cicinho comunitario permetterebbe alla Juve di provarci subito, altrimenti (con il nuovo acquisto di Kovac, extracomunitario) l'operazione dovrebbe essere impostata per la prossima stagione. E questa seconda ipotesi non va comunque scartata.

Ma quanto costa Cicinho? Nel nuovo contratto è stata stabilita una clausola di rescissione di 12 milioni di dollari, il 40% dei quali spetta al giocatore. Quindi si può arrivare ad un accordo senza doversi accollare spese eccessive. Anche questo è uno dei motivi che hanno stuzzicato la fantasia dei dirigenti juventini. Che nel ruolo cercano un giocatore di livello.

Cicinho would be an amazing player for us....but the fee is not very moggi like, plus since when do we see sign highly rated south americans?

I think cicinho is a very good player from what i have seen in the confederations cup.Can attack and defend with relative ease and hes quite young.Well worth 8million if u ask me and am sure with moggis negotiation skills we can even beat the price further down

I think in the long run, the legal mess that Miguel's involved with is probably gonna cost the club that signs him a lot of money..

he is going to be a star, why do we settle for second best??

we need a right back, miguel isint close...oddo hasnt been godd for quite some time. why not go for a young right back who has the world ahead of him?
