I'm going to say something, and it might sound a bit controvorcial for the haters in here. So here we go: Christian Bager Poulsen is our best defensive midfielder. Melo has his issues and Sissoko isn't even a football player.
You are absolutely right.

he only stands out because he is playing slighlty better than the rest who are disgustingly bad.

when sissoko, machisio, and melo on form he stood no chance and looked average.

If we are comapring, then if Poulsen is on form he has all the chances he needs against the players you mentioned.

In Melo I still believe, but Sissoko, well if DM goes i will be hoping it will be him.

poulsen has been here for 2 years now. i only recall him having 2 or 3 really good matches.

he is a good dm, but he doesn't belong here.

Most of the time he was being asked to play more then he had to. When he had his role simple, defend, cover and play simple passes he usualy was good even great at times. But when he was asked to play some sort of deep playmaker role too then he usaly failed, and that isn't his fault.

The same with Melo, just that he while being match fit and without injuries still manages to pull of very stupid moves. I bet you if Poulsen were given an extended time in the role where he would need to defend and cover without playmaking, he would be exelent.

My pick will be Momo too.. Out of our 3 DM, Pou is just the one who can play with composure and brain. So it left us with Momo or Melo to be sold. I don't think we can recover our investment in Melo, i do still think he has chance to be great.. and we need to wait how he perform with NT in WC.. As for Momo, he still has value and if the past rumour about Munich interested in him is true, we can negotiate Momo + cash swap with Ribery

I dont think we should sell Sissoko. He has been one of our absolutely best players, the last couple of years. When he played well, which he used to, I would say he was one of the best defensive midfielders. The whole team has underperformed this year, including Sissoko, but he has, as so many others, also been played out of position, in a retarded 3-man midfield, as a winger/high pressure player. Furthermore injuries has ruined his consistency as with the others.
I would be carefull to sell players like Sissoko, Marchisio, Melo, Poulsen, Diego and Amauri, as their value might have fallen, but their potential still remained.

Anyway, we still got a lot of players ready to ship for FC Cologne, with Grygera, Grosso, De Ceglie, Trezeguet, Zebina, Sali, Tiago and so on.

Nick, what type of player would you say Melo is?
Box to Box midfielder. He makes to many mistakes to be a DM, I think his main strengths are his driving runs forward with the ball. As we saw against Roma as we see with Brazil and as we saw with Fiorentina. He has to much responsibility as a DM and he is to error prone to be playing there. I blame the coaches who give him the role because it is not what he is.
