I don't think the substitutions were great considering 2 were forced with injury. And the last was with 5 mins left. What exactly is marchionni/nedved adding to our team during games that gio hasn't already added? What does this poor kid gotta do to get into this team?
Yeah Trezeguets sub was pretty useless so late on. It would have faired better IMO if Iaquinta was brought on simply because of his added strength in keeping ashley cole and Alex busy. Tiago seemed like he just took a knock on the face but seriously didnt look like he should have been taken off. Pardon my ignorance but why was gio left out of the team?

Go check some match facts before posting. Chelsea had 297 complete passes we had 295 complete passes.

You said we had two good chances and at the same time you mentioned three Chelsea chances, a big difference, right? ONE MORE CHANCE
We also had more of the possession in the first half, too. Yet somehow we managed to be a goal down and were flustered from so many defensive errors and giveaways at halftime.

But who knows, perhaps we played a brilliant match full of solid team passing. Amazing performance, especially with Sissoko and Tiago giving the ball away one-third of the time in the middle of the pitch. Very constructive stuff indeed.

No we didn't have more possession in the first half. They had more possession in the first half, we had more in the second. I told you, before and I tell you again, go check the match facts, it's your emotions and your hatred speaking.

And one more thing. Dont full yourself with our possession in the second half, Chelsea were leading and 1:0 is perfect score having a second leg! Its pretty normal they get back a bit and try score on counter. It ll be the same in Turin but with Deco and a 4-5-1 so good luck old fool Ranieri

Exactly. They went all guns blazing until they scored, after that my pulse wasn't high once. It never felt as if they threatened us after that. They sat back and it seemed both them and us were kind of satisfied with the result.
We weren't satisfied with the result. We obviously weren't. We did everything to equalize.
You can say that we couldn't do it because we're not good enough, or because Chelsea defend very well, or maybe a little bit of both, but we certainly weren't satisfied with 1:0.

Marchionni wasn't particularly good, but he stretched the pitch a bit and opened up a bit more space in midfield.

We had two clear chances and two or three half chances. You can't ask to create more than that when playing away to a very good team.
He did camo's job better than camo did himself, but some of his passing and overall reading of the game was not up to scratch

Chelsea are a good team and I still think 1-0 isn't particuarly bad, it's not over as long as we get some form behind us and the right attitude going.
However if we were to progress I think it's as far as we could go due to the limitations of our squad. Like greg said it's laughable when marchionni becomes your impact player, I would add let alone in siere A but in the champs league it says it all, I like him and all but we need better subs or else...

I agree as well. Under Ranieri, in my mind, we have already exceeded anything Capello brought to us in the CL. Sad but true, which is why we wanted Capello out.
And not to forget the differences between the Capello squad and this squad. Ranieri is ahead without any question.

Both teams played subpar. Both teams were not great with their passes. The difference in the game was a somewhat lucky through ball that found its way to Drogba.

It's clear our team is not as talented as Chelsea's but we can still come out on top if we take our chances next game. Let's be realistic, we probably have little chance of winning the CL this year but at least the higher ups (hopefully) get to see that we need 2 new fullbacks, and 2 new wing mids to compete seriously.

Man this statistical arguments are useless, Chelsea played more defensive at the second half, for that reason we controlled the match, and that high passing numbers has nothing to do with the term "our passing was awful", we pass a lot in our defending area, that's because we are weaker in terms of creativity, we just pass the ball between the defenders and midfielders, while the opponent defend as a team. If everyone will bring statistic from here, and statistic from there to make some argument, we are only going to argue without any sense. Tiago, Chiellini, Molinaro along with others wasted loads of passes, for that reason everyone saying "our passing was awful".

Obi Mikel was a clone of Essien and John Terry's abilities shouldn't be mentioned. It was a shame that we couldn't take advantage of Alex's weaknesses, that's the most I regret.
