Great Stats, but did we win anything? Did we improve in Europe? We were a disjointed and dysfunctional team. Rodildo didn't improve us.
Even with all the Ronaldo goals, we actually scored less as a team. Obv you expect an improvement in team play if you splash 100m on a transfer fee + 60m on yearly gross wages, not just great individual numbers. Ronaldo didnt bring that and a small part definitely is also his fault, obv his ego gets in the way of team interests. But mostly it was just a bad investment, no one player is worth that much money if you have a team as holey as ours was.

Maybe. But that was the start of Real Madrid’s 3 in a row series.

I honestly think our best chance was in 2019. If we didn’t get injuries just before the Ajax CL, we would have won that year imo. Look at how weak the teams were in the 2019 final.
Against Liverpool in the final? With that midfield we had? No chance. They'd have destroyed us.

They weren’t anywhere near as good as the Madrid or Barca teams we faced.

Yes our team wasn’t as good in 2019 as it was in 2017, but it would have been a much more balanced and winnable final had we made it imo.

That Madrid didn't have the depth of the 2017 team though, 2017 was their peak imo. 2016 they struggled a lot to get to the final, and maybe we would have met them before the final and beat them there (only to lose to Atletico or something).

2019 was another missed chance. If only we had Chiellini fit, that Barca was beatable and Tottenham and Liverpool especially. Ronaldo was on fire

Learn from their approach. They have built a great team with a limited budget and play very good football.
They have zero pressure to win. So their model is very different from ours. They but then sell on. Buy then sell on. They can make random signings on the transfer market of random prospects and it doesn’t really matter if they come off or not, they just rinse and repeat, sell who they can at as big a profit as possible.

Hence the reason they haven’t done shit for 35 years. So no, it’s not something we should or will learn from, because their strategy finally got it right that once in a blue moon.

If we want to learn from approach or style, look outside Italy. Real Madrid has sustained wild success for a decade without going over the top with net spending on the transfer market post-Ronaldo signing. Or Bayern, even if Italian clubs don’t bend over for us on the market like German clubs do for Bayern. Or Liverpool.

We're not as appealing as Real, and we have a long way to go if we want to emulate Bayern. If anything, it seems like we're starting to become a feeder club for the powerhouses now.

Like Dortmund. Zero pressure and happy winning nothing for decades. And if they do, big teams come and take away their players in one transfer window. Yeah, let's be more like them.
Yeah. Dortmund was the comparison I was going to make. Only difference is that Dortmund gift wraps their stars for Bayern while Napoli hates us and won’t sell us anyone (aside from ludicrous release clauses met).

It’s bizarre reading we should learn from Napoli’s model because they win one trophy in 35 years lol

Oh please. What does this have to do with what he posted above about learning from Napoli? We attempted to bridge the gap to the very top tier, but made a few bad mistakes (plus Covid) and failed in our attempt. But we still have far more in common with those clubs than we do with Napoli. And those are the models we should reference when working to improve ours. Not fucking Napoli because they fluked a successful season after 35 years of failure.
