basically what the real difference does it make who we get at this stage. The target for this season can only be winning the competition, considering we've played 2 finals in the last 3 years. So eventually we have to beat the strongest teams anyway, doesn't really matter in which order.

So, I don't understand why you think it is so important to get a relatively weak team. Moreover it even hurts more to lose the final gazillionth time than two lose the quarter.

Because if you get a weak team in the 1/4 finals, you only have to beat 2 good teams. Now we have to beat 3 good teams to win it. People underestimate the importance of the draw, even for the best teams.
