The thing with our team, though is that it's based on being defensively solid BUT achieving that through hard work. You can't discount our work ethic. Look at our left side - Alex Sandro and Mandzukic. Our right side of Lichtsteiner and Cuadrado. These are guys not afraid to go forward. For our philosophy to work well we need players who will track back after bombing forward and that's exactly what we have.
We're built in a strange way. Most teams who think of defence first would look to score on counter attacks but we look to score from creating regular chances. We have the pace to hit on the counter but it's not our primary game plan. Thusly we signed Higuain as a way to maximise our chance conversion rate because we expect to generate fewer chances than Bayern or whoever else.

I get your point. We are playing somewhere in between, like a hybrid.
I don't know if its gonna work this year, but it worked brilliant in the 1st half against Bayern last year, however as we all know, we did not manage to close shop and Evra made a stupid mistake that led to the goal that further led to the meltdown.
The big question is if we will be able to command games and dictate the tempo properly, with the clinical and cynical edge needed to succeed.
That means no stupid defensive mistakes in the dying minutes like Evra did, and losing the marker in the box, like we did against Lyon.
This is what worries me the most, especially on away games.

Yeah, i just realized and removed it, but still: concentration and warrior spirit is especially needed in away games.
And we have had a great deal of luck in our away games, especially against Lyon where Buffon and Cuadrado bailed us out bigtime. Sevilla was more due to them playing retarded and too agressive.
We have improved since then however and im positive we will be more competitive than last year this time around.

And I like that. Our hybrid way of having great defense and reliable attack has given us a lot of great results against teams that on paper should outscore us and simply dont know how to decipher us, for example real madrid. But like Napoleonic said, i know we can go one step above in attack, while maintaining our solidity and workrate overall like Juventus always does.
When we suceed in having a team like that, i have no doubts that we will compete every year for the CL.
In past years, we had an exceptional crop of midfielders and defenders, but our attack was so so until tevez and morata came.
The closest we have been to what i hope we are... is that 4312 allegri used with morata , tevez, the bbc and the MVPP. THAT was a team with good balance defensively and great attack and counters. Thats the kind of Juventus i want to see. Defensively cordinated italian style, but with great CL level attackers who can open up defenses and score. Tevez and MOrata did that.
I have never seen a juventus team play like that since the times of the 90s Juve. We were almost complete

I dont think we can be a top contender season in and season out. Financially we are not there with top dogs and case in point we will always sell one/two of our big players. It doesnt help with the manager leaving as well so its going to be difficult to be a top contender and I think this is probably as good as we can/will be. Maybe a tad better but thats it. That doesnt mean we cant win the CL, its just I cant see us in the semi's for like 2-3 seasons consecutively.

So what i said could last very well 2 or 3 seasons and then we will get grounded with sales etc. So yeah.
Neither Madrid or Bayern is unbeatable. PSG overperformed against Barcelona, they are not that good consistently.
Offcourse we have a chance to win CL. Lets not start to blame everything on money and wealth. That is a defeatist way of thinking.
The money issue is an important factor, but lets not play the victim role here:
we are a very successful and well driven club, and even though we are not among the richest we can play on other strengths like: tactic superiority, iron discipline, hunger, passion and bring that unique Grinta that no one else has.
We should accept the facts, stop crying over Vidal,Pogba and Morata and move forward with what we have.
This is what i want to see from us this season. However the story ends, I want teams to be afraid when they meet us. We should only settle for performances a true warrior would be proud of.

Laughing at Napoli & Inter but not seeing the irony when complaining about the "Pogba incident" two years ago 
I said we were a "50/50 penalty incident from going 2-1 up against Barcelona in 2015"...
We were. It's not a complaint. We may have still lost regardless. The point I was making is that every single CL final we've played in could have gone either way with this incident or that going for or against us. Even the two finals we won were balanced on a knife edge.
We've underperformed in finals but also been relatively unlucky. Whereas Madrid has had luck go their way in finals, winning 5 of 5 in the last 20 years (with some very good fortune at times) where we have gone 1 of 5. Bayern too has underperformed and had pisspoor luck in several finals.
Part of winning one-match finals is being the better team, another part is having ball bounce your way, 50/50 decisions go your way, etc.
So hush with the nonsense. No one is whining about that.
