Nope, Asamoah was already in the group stage squad. Evra's departure meant one more spot which was taken by Lichtsteiner. (doesn't mean that Licht will play in his position.)
Asamoah wasn't top of form.he jut got back from injury and there wasnt anyone we could've gotten that quickly to replace him at this critical time. we had to give his role to evra.

Been spying on porto. One of a handful games this season.

Anyway, tonight was a big one for them, they took on sporting and won 2-1.

In the first half, there wasn't much in it, both teams were fouling and losing ball, until Porto scored from a quick long ball to the wings from casillas and after holding the ball Jesus corona puts a beauty of a cross and new signing soares heads it in on his debut.

Porto's manager started with a 4-4-2 formation which is unusual for them but it worked out. Second goal came from another counter this time, danilo pereira put a beauty through ball for soares to run onto and score.

Sporting look shaken and their main man gelson Martin's was marked well by telles lb (ex inter,) and brahimi.

In second half sporting came out much better and pushed themselfs at porto. Porto sat back much more often. Relying on the counter the odd occasion but came out as a different team and thanks to the centre back pairing and telles they were holding sporting out somehow. Gelson martins was more on the ball and this guy really is something, I can see him moving to a big club soon, I don't want to overhype him but his got a swagger like ronaldinho. Of course his got a lot to learn and improve on but if he moves to the right club he might become a something. Anyway sporting came back in the game and it was thanks to martins movement on the right, laid off by one of sporting players and hit on volley by ruiz. Porto were truly shaken, it was all sporting from there onwards and they deserved an equalizer and to be honest if it wasn't for casillas heroics it should've been 2-2. A good match.

What I've noticed time and time again is that Porto attack in numbers and defend in numbers too. In this game they got complacent and got tired toward the end. Telles has been brilliant for them this season. Their centre back partnership is strong, I especially think Felipe is a hard nut. Brahimi has learned how to defend and I think they will give us a hard time at dragao but if we hold out for 60 minutes or so even at 0-0 or score early then we got this.

I think they were weak (defensively) on the right. Maxi pereira does what he does best and puts a lot of dirty fouls. We can use mandzukic to wind him up and get the guy sent off.

I noticed how they struggle with long balls and it would be good for us to pull them out now and again ala bonucci.

We have finally hit our stride and have a formation which allows us to play our best players.

Have the other big teams done the same? I don't watch other teams but I read here that Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern all had shaky starts, how are they doing now?

Real has been in great form all season and had few off games lately. They went out in Coppa del Rey vs Celta but are still 1st in the league. Expect them to recover soon though and win La Liga in the end. Barcelona is the one struggling the most currently and dont look impressive when compared to previous years. They are droping points on games they usually deal with easily. Made some mediocre transfers last 2 seasons and it shows. Bayern had a meh start but knowing Ancelotti they will catch form just in the right time for the last few months of the season. Nothing to get excited about as they are all still super strong

Hoeness believes securing improved terms is Costa's own motivation and insists taking such grievances public is not the way Bayern do business.

The former Germany international told TZ he felt the player's actions were: "A desperate attempt to get a higher salary."

He added: "That doesn't work with us. He can try 10 more times. He is certainly not a social event."

Thats why I respect Bayern's management.

Honestly i think the only superior team is Barcellona.
Messi-Suarez-Neymar are simply too much at the moment.
You can hardly defend against Messi while you can with Ronaldo. Ronaldo is more a hard worker than pure talented Messi. So it's easier
Bayern has many good players and panzer mentality but quality wise we're not that far behind them.
We're def in the top5 with luck we could scrup this cup.
If we kept Pogba and Vidal we would be favoured contenders with Barcellona

If we had Pogba and Vidal, we wouldn't probably have Dybala and Higuain.

Bizzare post. They litterally have improved as an organization and team past 2 years (Zizou is alot more tactically secure) while we weakened ourselves 2 summers in a row in the department that matters the most in CL, midfield.

maybe not Higuain but Dybala? 32+8?

I still have wet dreams if I think we could field
Buffon/ Lichsteiner-Barzagli-Bonucci-Alex Sandro / Vidal-Marchisio-Pogba/ Pjanic / Dybala-Higuain
The only weak link would be Lichsteiner XD
That would been sick, best defence and midfield, and 3rd or so best attack.

Explain to me in proper Zach "Advanced Tactical Football Knowledge" why we'd defeat this Real Madrid team.
Real Madrid is unbalanced. We have amazing talentaswel , but also greatly superior workrate, duelstrenght on the wings, and defensive quality.

Pjanic-Khedira can cover that midfield perfectly whilst ManBro will be harrassing wide and central all game. BurgerMate comming deep to trouble their buildup. Our wide area's beeing incredibly strong in Duelpower.

Ronaldo will be isolated, again. But Dybala and Cuadrado will murder that fullback behind him. We have many counter abilities and we should play hard forward in possession.

also. Pjanic has 50x more chance to actually score a freekick or assist a corner.

I see Zach has taken too many uppers today.

You talk like we proven shit with this new Juve, we haven't whatsoever. It's all talk every time. Real won 2 CLs in 3 years, only become more tactical and balanced since and Barca have the most insane attack possible, give them space and they will rape you.

Let's do our talking on the pitch instead of pat ourselves on the back before coming up short. We have alot to prove and it does not warrant your over confidence or talking down on teams that actually shown they are better. Those 2 and Bayern.

Pjanic and Higuain make this team alot stronger then when Pogba was here, combined with the improvement of several other players.

And we have proven this you think? Seriously? We are work in progress and fragile, it will take ALOT to consistently do anything in CL with this current team. Until they show their worth, how about you be humble for once?

This isnt La Liga. We dont give space.

I know you have an inherent bias towards any top team that isnt juventus and have been the advocate of the big opponents each time someone praised juventus, but you are wrong in this case.

This team has incredible talent. We will beat Real. We will beat Barcelona.

It drives me mad how much role luck plays in CL, especially their last title and their road to it was just... ughhh (not to mention the offside goal in 1998 final).

poor Atletico (and us ).
