It's certainly no surprise most South American players fail to make their mark in the EPL... the fast pace and emphasis on strength power and speed destroys the game for them. That's why there is this convoluted hype surrounding the EPL which is based upon the sacrifice of beauty for power. Too be honest, I'm glad many South Americans fail in such an atmosphere... just so the definition of MY beautiful game is protected.
Just cause Carlos can't handle counter attacking doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the game. There are and have been several South American players to find success in the EPL. The problem South American players have is probably the same for anyone who transfers to a new club in a different country. Give Tevez half a year and I think you will be surprised at how well he does.
Veron was crap in Man United.
Crespo was ok though not brilliant for Chelsea.
Roque Junior received the nickname "Rocky Horror" from Leeds-fans.
Angel has been a solid striker for Villa but not 'Great'.
Forlan almost couldn't score ANY goals for the Manure.
The only player I can remember doing very well is Juninho for Middlesbrough back in the day.
It really seems as though South American players experience such a culture shock coming to England that they just can't seem to find their form, ever.
Mascherano and Tevez are world class players and they're playing shite!

You are correct in that most offensive players don't to well, I think the EPL success of South American players is held by defenders. If you watch South American football you find some of the leagues and teams have a very similar style, the play can be very up and down. But to say the style of the EPL ruins South American players is a bit of a stretch.
It's not a stretch at all... you can see what happens just by watching the said players play. Veron could no longer have the time to size up his masterful 50-yard long balls, Crespo could no longer thrive off of playmakers sliding through balls past Italian defenses and had to deal with the quicker pace which obviously he couldnt handle, Forlan could not put up with long ball after long ball played to him as he's used to playing with the ball on the ground etc etc. In my opinion the style of the EPL DOES ruin South American players as they simply cannot do what they're capable of in a league where speed and power are the main attributes. It's simple really... creativity can easily be outmuscled when 99% of your opponents have the English football mindset.

I think that if we will try to get Mascerano that will be ok but instead of loose a lot of Money on Tevez (that will only become if we will sell Trez or even Search a Sub for DP and let dye Bojinov) then it will be a lot better to get Huntelaar. He will be for sure cheaper and Huntelaar is still proven in Europe and Ready for a Big League.
