Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox told the club website:

"Considering the midfield options we have available to us right now, and Charly’s lack of game time, we wanted to allow him this chance to gain some valuable experience in one of the top leagues in Europe.

Juventus are a huge club and we are convinced that this move will allow Charly the opportunity to flourish and then come back and be a success at Southampton.”
So he's a bench player? And we paid a high loan fee for him to be at Juve for only a few months? How's this a good deal for us considering we're not exercising the option to buy anyway?

There are people who pretend to be experts by writing volumes , but why bother when you have an in-house expert, @Lion, who can give you a perfect and synthetic analysis in less than a minute:
"Perfect dentition that allow him to cast in any toothpaste commercial ( Did he have surgery ?). His matte skin must ensure him a certain success in winter among women, the average European looks pale and dull in comparison. However, being Argentinian, I cannot say with certainty about his sexual orientation (risk of cohabitation in the locker room, particularly with Serbs).

In the negative points, we can highligh his horrible cutting eyebrows who has not been trendy since 2014, the last great player to have done it being Arturo Vidal. This player lacks creativity and personality. "

So basically the director of football from a Championship side is insinuating that Juventus is a stepping stone in the development of a promising talent that can’t find regular playing time in the 2nd tier of english football so that afterwards he can be a success at Southampton once they are back in the PL... lol

That pretty much explains the absurd option to buy fee, but also indicates that the player likely pushed for a move away since the summer because he did not enjoy getting relegated and they were just bitter to let him go cheap.

So much this.

Who of us would have ever thought that we would become such an embarrassment of a club?

The best case scenario for us is that he does well here, adapts to the environment, gets attached to Italy and then strongly pushes to make the move permanent here instead of another PL side that might match the asking price of Southampton, thus resulting in us getting him on a discount or even an extended loan plus option/obligation because of the player’s will to only join Juventus, which could be, or otherwise i guess if he doesn’t hit the ground running here we just move on after this initial loan and that’s that.

No point in getting overly worried about it as long as it’s just an option and not obligation, it’s clearly a bet that comes with many question marks but it also brings an element of surprise to the squad, whether it’s gonna be a positive one or not remains to be seen.

Ezequiel Schelotto, a former teammate of Carlos Alcaraz at Racing Club says the new Juventus signing is similar to Rodrigo De Paul and Claudio Marchisio and claims even Leo Messi predicted a bright future for the Argentinean midfielder.
Schelotto, a former Serie A midfielder for Inter and Atalanta, among other teams, played in the 2021-22 campaign with Alcaraz at Racing Club.
The 21-year-old has joined Juventus on an initial loan deal with an option to buy from Southampton for €49.5m, but Schelotto is convinced Alcaraz will be worth every penny.
“Juventus made a great move,” the 34-year-old told Tuttosport.
“We are talking about a huge talent destined to become a top player in a couple of years. He is considered a big player in Argentina and even Leo Messi predicted a bright future for him.
“Charly can grow in Italy and become one of the most important players in the world. I think he can aim to become a starter for Argentina in two years. He has everything to make it and he can complete his growth process at Juventus. He is 21 but has already started in more than 100 games between Argentina and England.”
So, where can he fit in at Juventus?
“He can play as a Mezzala (box-to-box midfielder) on the right,” replied Schelotto.
“To me, this is his ideal role. Alcaraz’s late runs are dangerous and he has an excellent shoot from distance. He is strong with both feet, he has great quality, but he helps defensively as well.”
Will he settle in well in the Bianconeri’s dressing room?
“He is a very good guy too. He never causes problems and listens to advice from teammates with more experience,” noted his ex-teammate.
“Charly knows how to make himself respected, he doesn’t speak much, but when he does, he leaves a mark. He is 21 but he seems wiser for his age.”
Is he similar to any ex-Juventus midfielder?
“If I have to name a former Juventus player, I’d say Marchisio, but if you ask me to compare him with an Argentinean player, I’d say De Paul even if Carlos is a little more attacking-minded,” concluded Schelotto.

Didn’t Moggi praise Schelotto as a prospect? :touched: Or am I misremembering?

To make people understand how fucked giuntoli and this deal are

This transfer fee is higher than what Real Madrid paid for Vinicius Fucking Junior.
This transfer fee is higher than what Real Madrid paid for Rodrygo.
This transfer fee is higher than what Real Madrid paid for Endrick.
This transfer fee is three times higher than what Atletico Madrid paid for Vermeeren.
This transfer fee is half of what Real Madrid paid for Bellingham.
This transfer fee is more than what Real Madrid paid for Camavinga.
This transfer fee is almost as high as what Newcastle paid for Tonali.
This transfer fee is higher than what Chelsea paid for Cole Palmer.

Who cares what these guys say. I remember when we played Celtic in the CL play-offs and their environment was also downgrading us. There was a Spurs fan here, Dantes, that was also sure Tottenham is at least as big of a club as Juve is. The bias is real there. I guess they still haven't recovered from the fall of the British Empire.

From what I read the boy wanted to leave Southampton but would only accept a move to EPL or some major European club. Soton is known for a great scouting and selling their best assets for high fees. It's enough to check their transfer history. Just to give you an example, Gareth Bale was playing for Southampton before his move to Tottenham (15mln for a 18yo full-back in 2007).

To be honest i could not care less about that Southampton director’s statement, was just summing up the absurdity of it all, to me his comments are mainly part of the ‘greatness of the EPL and such weak Seria A’ propaganda coming from their british bubble… also bitterness cumulated by the fact that Alcaraz had probably been already desperately pushing for a move out since the summer and they couldn’t maximize the profit on him this early.

We should just take it for what it is now that he is here, it’s a short term solution for us to potentially boost our midfield, that along with an absurd option to buy fee attached which we surely won’t be looking to trigger, not on those terms at least.

That Celtic CL era was great. Also helps, I went to Scotland to see the away match. Celtic was fresh off giving Barca a run for their money and their fans were certain their club was rising in European arena. They could only go on and on about their atmosphere.

I have a feeling that this deal is a start. Sooner or later there will be rumor on Tuz about money going to Giuntoli's pocket.
what do you mean sooner or later? he paid 11m for weah when he could have gotten him on a similar loan + option deal. why ask yourself did he do that?

I'm not sure about his "technique", from a few videos i've seen, he seems very clumsy accidental dribbler to me. My guess would be that for every lucky bounce there is 10 unlucky ones, that were left out of the videos.
their fans say he has a bad first touch. so in the allegri team of eternal tiki taka expect him to be result of many lost balls resulting in counter attacks. so he will be benched soon after.
