So basically the director of football from a Championship side is insinuating that Juventus is a stepping stone in the development of a promising talent that can’t find regular playing time in the 2nd tier of english football so that afterwards he can be a success at Southampton once they are back in the PL... lol
That pretty much explains the absurd option to buy fee, but also indicates that the player likely pushed for a move away since the summer because he did not enjoy getting relegated and they were just bitter to let him go cheap.

The best case scenario for us is that he does well here, adapts to the environment, gets attached to Italy and then strongly pushes to make the move permanent here instead of another PL side that might match the asking price of Southampton, thus resulting in us getting him on a discount or even an extended loan plus option/obligation because of the player’s will to only join Juventus, which could be, or otherwise i guess if he doesn’t hit the ground running here we just move on after this initial loan and that’s that.
No point in getting overly worried about it as long as it’s just an option and not obligation, it’s clearly a bet that comes with many question marks but it also brings an element of surprise to the squad, whether it’s gonna be a positive one or not remains to be seen.

Ezequiel Schelotto, a former teammate of Carlos Alcaraz at Racing Club says the new Juventus signing is similar to Rodrigo De Paul and Claudio Marchisio and claims even Leo Messi predicted a bright future for the Argentinean midfielder.
Schelotto, a former Serie A midfielder for Inter and Atalanta, among other teams, played in the 2021-22 campaign with Alcaraz at Racing Club.
The 21-year-old has joined Juventus on an initial loan deal with an option to buy from Southampton for €49.5m, but Schelotto is convinced Alcaraz will be worth every penny.
“Juventus made a great move,” the 34-year-old told Tuttosport.
“We are talking about a huge talent destined to become a top player in a couple of years. He is considered a big player in Argentina and even Leo Messi predicted a bright future for him.
“Charly can grow in Italy and become one of the most important players in the world. I think he can aim to become a starter for Argentina in two years. He has everything to make it and he can complete his growth process at Juventus. He is 21 but has already started in more than 100 games between Argentina and England.”

“He can play as a Mezzala (box-to-box midfielder) on the right,” replied Schelotto.

Who cares what these guys say. I remember when we played Celtic in the CL play-offs and their environment was also downgrading us. There was a Spurs fan here, Dantes, that was also sure Tottenham is at least as big of a club as Juve is. The bias is real there. I guess they still haven't recovered from the fall of the British Empire.

It's enough to check their transfer history. Just to give you an example, Gareth Bale was playing for Southampton before his move to Tottenham (15mln for a 18yo full-back in 2007).

To be honest i could not care less about that Southampton director’s statement, was just summing up the absurdity of it all, to me his comments are mainly part of the ‘greatness of the EPL and such weak Seria A’ propaganda coming from their british bubble… also bitterness cumulated by the fact that Alcaraz had probably been already desperately pushing for a move out since the summer and they couldn’t maximize the profit on him this early.
We should just take it for what it is now that he is here, it’s a short term solution for us to potentially boost our midfield, that along with an absurd option to buy fee attached which we surely won’t be looking to trigger, not on those terms at least.

what do you mean sooner or later? he paid 11m for weah when he could have gotten him on a similar loan + option deal. why ask yourself did he do that?
