Chiellini can´t play in the VAR era point blank. Too late to change his playing style and he´s become a huge liability. I get a heart attack every time he makes a challenge in the box.

One of the greatest defenders of all time for sure but he should retire after this season.

He looked bad with some VAR decisions recently, but that shit today could have happened to any defender.

How many handballs did DeLigt give away in his first season? He too too old for VAR era?
he was at fault for the 3rd goal. that attempt at a header was worse than anything bonucci has ever done.

No time for Giorgio to adapt to VAR, unlike De Ligt.
It's just that his style, for which we all loved him immensely, is incompatible with VAR.

Still hope he renews, got to be more careful obviously and i'm sure many reactions now are in the heat of the moment but overall he was no less shaky than everyone else, could even argue that he was actually of the few more positively involved for us rather than the opposite... while if you think about it the PK afterall didn't cost us and could (should) have been the morale shift for us to turn it around if not for us playing like total crap and being clueless regardless of any individual incident.

In the end he was least at fault for how incapable this team is of creating an semi decent attack and bringing home a result, Chiellini is just as affected as everyone else by how much we've regressed afterall and if anything you could still see he was giving his all, did also alot in winning duels and building from the back while keeping us on the front foot in many situations(if you can't see this than you are just biased tbf), nevermind his organizational skills, he is still more than reliable to be a back-up for next season and fill in when needed, especially thinking about how injury prone our CB department has been this past few seasons it makes even more sense to do so if he feels like continuing for another seasonaswell.

Under a competent coach that can set up a defence he can thrive again, and yes even in this VAR era, as he in fact proved it possible in many other games when he was flawless, nonetheless also deserves a better farewell than this failed experiment of a season.

That's an incorrect comparison because of the trend - one was adapting to the league, while the other looks way past it, even unable to adapt.

Love him but he can't give any more than he did. We need to move on.

rewatch it then, he was marking someone else and then did a last moment attempt on stopping Tomori as he seen was unmarked, that goal was as much on whoever was initially supposed to mark him and the rest of the defense as on him, also the game was done and dusted already so gtfo with all this bs trolling....

Todays pen had nothing to do with VAR. It was simply bad luck. That's the point.

But the ref didn't whistle it at first, he clearly showed to continue the play. So in the end it was about VAR and his lack of adaptability.

In the past Chiellini got away with a lot of handballs and fouls but it's not a surprise it doesn't work anymore.
Look man, all in all point is so many other things we need to focus on that need to be changed and improved in this team before looking at cheap, loyal legends like Chiellini that even on a bad day you know gives his all and can still bring a helping hand when needed.

He should be the least of our concerns right now, whether he decides to renew or not will probably be his choice to make anyway, but try thinking about it this way too, we are way less of a mess with him around than we'd be without.
