Ya, but they are full of shit. I don't doubt that you ran into people like that in Naples. They are definitely there, but when a friend of a friend starts saying that a guy they hate is involved in this or that, it's likely BS. Why do I say this? Two reasons:
1. For all the shit people said about Moggi, Camorra was never mentioned once in his entire career.
2. If he had connections that high he'd be sitting next to Berlusconi not in court fighting to clear his name.
I believe he ran into them there because Maradona himself admitted to being threatened by them when he was there and several other Napoli based players of that era came forward eventually. There was an investigation and it died on the vine (go figure). Napoli was in first place, Milan was in second. Napoli had won the previous scudetto and many Neapolitans bet on them to repeat. When it appeared as though they were going to repeat, the Camorra stood to lose a lot of money. Their friend (a young Berlumerda) had also purchased Milan a few years before and had promised to bring them glory.
Players and directors were threatened to throw their remaining games. In the last 4 games several players came down with the "flu" and Milan caught up. It was 1988. Camorra made money, Berlusconi became a hero and people got arrested. One turned state’s witness. The trial went on for a long time. As Berlusconi moved up in politics he successfully solicited to reduce the amount of years it took for a trial to fall out of statute (8 years to 2) and effectively killed the trial.
He’s got ties. Moggi? If anything he got bullied.
