Shadowfax has a very valid point there.

So, where is Burke?
Not entirely, but sort of. If Burke caused a serious injury, he could still be in jail. However, Paul is probably right, and the little country-clubber got sent to Cancun by his parents to avoid the embarassment of having the family name in the newspaper.

Isn't manslaughter and reckless endangerment serious enough for immediate sanctions?
Not as far as im aware... in a democratic country you cant keep someone without trial for more than a few days... You jus charge and release... unless theres a flight risk, in which case they are on remand... but ive never heard of that sort of thing for a drink driver.

I know, over here... if you ran someone down and killed them, you would be held until sober enough to be questioned and then be charged and released pending trial... usually well within 24 hours

Maybe not Andy, but I always believed that your country practised the guilty until proven innocent maxim?
No its keep the sucker locked up until someone proves him innocent. :D

I guess american law is different. If it was the uk he'd be out, even if he caused death.

Then he'd go down for 10 years and serve 9 months.

No they dont... they use the same innocent until proven guilty system as we do.... france and italy work on the idea of guilty until proven innocent

Theoretically at least, or if you are WASP and rich. Tis guilty until proven innocent if you belong to any other group.

Am I wrong Andy? Search yourself.

If Burke, for example, were to be charged with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, he would be held in jail under a bailbond (somewhere in the range of $10,000 to $15,000). If nobody bailed him out, or if his bond was not reduced, he would remain in jail until his court date (probably within 30 days), at which time a hearing to reduce the bond could be held. The judge would not have to reduce the bond, however.

If Burke was charged with Manslaughter, his bond might be $100,000. That might explain why Burke was still locked up.

Beautiful day today, wouldnt have wanted to be anywhere else.
You people's idea of a beautiful day requires me to wear 4 layers of clothing. I sh1t you not.

I have no answer for you Shadowfax.

For me, any weather that requires that I consistently wear an overcoat over multiple layers of clothing is awful.

Walking around in the heat is worse, hard to breath, hard to function. Also I dont like to walk around naked, im too white :D
