But I don't see him fitting in our team/that formation, though. And I doubt we'd bench him.

I don't see us playing without wingers.
This is why I think we don't really have a plan. We're probably gonna continue with 4-2-3-1 for now, but I think we'll spend some time trying to figure out our best team like last season.

I do NOT hope for 3 man midfield. Why should anyone? Only if its necessary for occasional tie/rotation, injury issues, but we bought wingers and are going after Keita too, so we should continue with this 4 attacking players at same time approach. Our CM depth isnt good enough to go for 3 man midfield at all. Lopsided way to do things if invest heavily on attacking players then switch to 3 man CMs again...
Totally agree. The 4-3-2-1, after the mercato we've had, is crazy talk.

4-3-3 seems only possible if Higuain or Dybala is benched.

However, what becomes more viable is the 3-4-3 we used a bit last year because of Alves. Now you put Cuadrado in that position and bench both MDS and Licht.

Rugani-Benatia-Chiellini
Cuadrado-Pjanic-Matuidi-Alex Sandro
Dybala-----Costa
Higuain

Why is everyone presuming we are going to play 3 man midfield? If we play 3 man midfield it means we still have less backup options.

Also people ignore that Lemina and Rincon transfer money basically finance the deal of Matuidi. So i can totally see him as a squad depth signing who is upgrade over the Rincons and Sturaros.

He's not coming here to be a bench player.
He will start most of the games.
And he is much more suited to play in a 3 man midfield
Many of us think that he's not the DM to play in a duo in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

That's why many reports pointing it out as well.
