For 15mln it's a fair deal. He is proven at the top level and offers us physicality in the middle that we lack. Also, as Osman said, with him we will be finally able to field a strong three man midfield with Marchisio and Pjanic.

I'd think that we will see a 3 man midfield quite a lot if he comes.
That's exactly what I'm hoping happens.

The whole purpose of having this kind of player in your lineup is to have your more technical CM's operate a bit further forward to strut their stuff.

I do NOT hope for 3 man midfield. Why should anyone? Only if its necessary for occasional tie/rotation, injury issues, but we bought wingers and are going after Keita too, so we should continue with this 4 attacking players at same time approach. Our CM depth isnt good enough to go for 3 man midfield at all. Lopsided way to do things if invest heavily on attacking players then switch to 3 man CMs again...

Someone delete the above shit post/pic^^^

for 15m this is a good signing. The only and glaring question or problem for me is HOW will he function in 2 man midfield? He has high engine, joins attack alot (does good job of it) and pressures opponents often, but this is all box to box freedom allowed him in 3 man midfield virtually his entire career? (seen him in 2 man midfield for France, he looked really poor when you limit him to more static holding approach, fish out of water limitation). So question is, what is Allegri thinking? Matuidi is not one for patient possession game in holding 2 man duo (needs to cover tons of space up and down), so how much of is this someone he asked for? Or just provided for him?

I mean, Allegri played Sturaro and Lemina on wing, not only because team lacked backup wingers, but because technically speaking he didnt find them up to snuff in his approach in CMs. Especially Sturaro, who is 3 times worse then Matutidi, but has the similar characteristics of running up and down like headless chicken and joining late into the box, but more importantly lacking the technique and skill of crowded center mid spaces, and needing the physicality and high motor to showcase the best attributes. Yes Allegri wants one of his CMs to be a box to box type, but it semi-works for Khedira to to b2b approach, but he is also tactical and clever enough to manage the patient holding mid role. Not to mention, Allegri specfically mentionned he wants his b2b/DM choice to be a physical big and able to head well defensively speaking. Neither aspects that suits Matuidi.

If we had signed Matuidi last summer, and Allegri changed to this new formation mid way, I'm pretty sure we would be seeing Matuidi in Mandzukic roll on more then one occasion (he certainly has the insane motor for it). I mean I seen him play that for PSG, as LW in 3 man attack where he runs nonstop (he has good instincts to find space, combine quickly with others), so question is how well with this guy fit in Allegri's idea for CM. It will be intriguing and odd to follow.

One thing is sure, if we sign him, we will be using 3 man CM midfield for few big CL games, Matuidi, Pjanic and Marchisio/Khedira, would free this guy up in kinda way he been in PSG. I dont expect to see it too often with how many wingers we have now, but wouldnt suprise me as a change to adapt to some threat.
:blah: :blah: :blah: Honest question. Do you tolerate opinions that are different to yours? I feel that you're one of those people that enjoy shoving/forcing their opinions, regardless of whether they are right or wrong, down people's throats in real life ;) :p

STFU and contribute anything but spamming the page with a huge ass pic of LITTERAL garbage. That should be the minimum requirement here for any poster. Not being a nuisance by posting shit like that.

Now a 3 man midfield becomes an option for those games we will need an extra body in the middle.

Higuain - Dybala

Bernardeschi

Matuidi - Marchisio - Pjanic

Alex Sandro - Chiellini - Rugani - Spinazzola
Buffon

But still in a double pivot I would rather start a healthy Marchisio instead of Matuidi.
looks decent might lose another final with it :baus:

Marchisio - Pjanic - Matuidi could work but I have no confidence in Marchisio staying fit.

Also, dropping down to 3 attackers means one of Higuain - Dybala - Costa - Berna is no longer a starter. Assuming the obvious in that Dybala and Higuain are untouchable barring awful form, this means we dropped 40M on a rotation player just so we can accommodate Matuidi. And neither of those 2 attackers will want to be anywhere near our bench come January when they're fully settled.

Considering that, I still think 4-2-3-1 is the plan.

Who said anything about 4-3-3?

Rugani-Benatia-Chiellini
DeS-Marchi-Pjanic-Matuidi-Sandro
Dybala-Higuain

:conte:
:D We don't have depth for CBs.

4-2-3-1 will be our main formation. It has been confirmed by Allegri. However, being able to switch through formations seems to be what we like hence Matuidi transfer.
Matuidi will be a sure starter if he comes. So if he comes... I guess we'll see him in a 2man midfield most of the time :boh:

Matuidi is a decent signing for our MD and obviously he will do well since he is an experienced player. This is not a lemina or hernanes type of signing.

I am trying to find the interview but Max did say that playing 4-3-3 was a possibility this season.

Wouldn't mind benching Pipita the aircraft carrier if we go 4-3-3 with Costa, Dybala and Berna up front.

Lets finally catch up with the false nine trend :tuttosport:
