I've been holding out on giving Maxi Rodriguez props, but he's certainly making it very hard for me to deny him that...

hmmm, maybe it will end like this :

Klose--Toni
Riquelme---Zidane/Ribery/Figo/C.Ronaldo
Vieira---Pirlo
Lahm - Cannavaro - Terry/Lucio - Zambrotta
Buffon/Ricardo

I would swap Mascherano for Pirlo. Pirlo imo hasnt played his best since the 1st match, whilst Mascherano has been sensational all tournament for Argentina.

I would also say that Terry was not at his best either with some uncharacteristic errors.

Cannavaro must be, unless Zidane goes to the final and does a hattrick or something liek that............. and even by doing it,,, i think he cant surpass what canna has done in this cup.

Pirlo has to be in that team. He was MoM today acccording to FIFA. Perhaps even Gattuso if you think about it. Ribery - really ? He impressed but I think as a young rising star, not in the 11 , not that I've seen him enough... also ballack might lose his spot now.

btw, terry had that really nice sweep in the group stage where he saved from the line. But there have been quite many quality CB, germany surprised here too.

I was just rewatching the last 15 minutes of extra time. It seemed that Canna left his imprint on every exchange of the ball on the Italy end. What a force.

player of the tournament? mine is a plural vote, and it goes to the italian squad and lippi in particular who has masterminded this world cup superbly, and a special award goes to zaccardo as so far being the only goalscorer to beat the mighty buffon.

It will go to Klose, even though I think that he is just another Makaay.
