Andy,

I agree, if it can be proven that Van Damme said those words, then ok, but since I doubt there is prove or since I doubt there are witnesses, I don't think he stands much of a chance.

We'll see what comes from this.

Were there any 'witnesses'? I mean how can this stand in court if its only Onyewu's words against the other players?[/quotethat's the problem
Onyewu repeatedly told the ref about it and even wanted to leave the pitch
but the ref said he didn't hear it
how are you going to prove it?
it's his word against Van Damme's
he doesn't stand a chance in court

So if you have niggers on your land, you can't be racist? Good news for Alabama.

Maybe. But, Arthur Boka, Emmanuel Eboué, Gervinho, Marco Né, Romaric, Yaya Touré for example all did come from Beveren.
true but we live in a country (Belgium) were nearly a quarter of the people vote for a racist party.
they will never be in the government and people know that, I'll give you that, but still
that's a pretty big part if you ask me

Whoa, do you really believe we have that many racists? I for sure don't consider every VB voter a racist. That's way exaggerated imo. Naive, narrow minded: yes. But racist, I find that hard to believe.

Belgium is a boring country. I will credit them for giving us French Fries, good chocolate, and diamonds.

Then again, you can find French Fries everywhere, diamonds are in abundance in South Africa, and as for Chocolate Switzerland and Italy produce great chocolate as well.

So, do we really need Belgium? Go figure :p

By the way, what the hell are you guys having an argument about? Everyone agrees what has happened is wrong and shouldn't happen during a football game. The only detail is that taking someone to court over this specific issue is ineffective in Europe.

And yes, the belgian FA has already taken actions before to stop racist name calling in football, but we just don't make as big of a drama about it.

Sure, you have offered us child prostitution, sex tourism and ladyboys, but do we really need Thailand?

What annoys me is that Onyewu probably insulted Van Damme the entire game. But then Van Damme says something that could be qualified as racist and Onyewu's all shocked. It's like this in real life too. If you're black, brown or yellow, you can say pretty much everything to a white man. Doesn't matter if you call him a stupid monkey. But if he insults you, it's racism and you're in court. Things like these only make people less tolerant. Suck it up, Gooch.

Is someone who uses racial slur inherently racist? I'm not sure. But if not, then this case is the same as calling an obese person "fatass".
Depends on the motive. People who've heard slurs on tv and just start using them without thinking about it I wouldn't call racist. That is to say the impact of their statements amounts to racism, but is ultimately not intended to be.

What about "monkey". If you say monkey to a black man, everyone will say it's racist. If you say monkey to a white man and that man sues you, he'll be laughed at. While it's the same bloody thing. I always thought that discrimination was about creating unjustified differences ;).
