Won the UEFA Cup. Figo hasn't won shit in 2000 either.
I'm talking about if he had outstanding performances himself, not if he won anything.

People tend to forget how good Owen was during his hey day.
Still not deserved for a Ballon d'Or imo. Then they should've given one to Ballack as well.

This guy thinks Lewandowski, consistent scorer who allways (for long time) disappears in big games for years, and a goalie, should get Balon D or.

Yikes.
We are talking about this year alone.

Fuck me, that was close. Only 7 points in it in the end.

Votes got split up between 3-4 players from the pro "winner should come from Pool" side, that cost them

Sneijder, Robben, Ribery, Totti, Owen, Gerrard, Rui Costa, Pirlo, Seedorf to name a few players who definitely should have won for incredible performances in the CL except for Owen and Totti who didn't see proper CL action.

If the last few years are anything to go by it's nothing but a popularity contest between barca and real Madrid

Are you trying to say Ronaldo and Messi havent been the best players deserving to win the awards? :D Like no one else is close to them.

Only time its been questionable was giving it to Modric.

Its funny and sad that you are prolly PMSing about this just because Ronaldo became our player recently.

Not SINGLE one of those had a legit chance except possible case for Sneijder thats already weak (he wasnt even the undisuputed best player in his team lol, mediocre league season, good CL and WC), and Totti perhaps if he ever actually won anything while players as good or better were leading their teams to throphies while he wasnt (which year would you give him?). Totti was a genial player, if he wanted Balon d or chances, he should have left Roma. Then he could maybe get one like sheva and Nedved did.

Owen already won, and that in itself was questionable because Raul was better that year.

Most of those you mentionned werent even clear cut best players at their position for most years (some of them not even the best for their teams, Seeforf was rarely best player in his team, mostly a top 5 midfielder in Europe). Ribery in particular was an arrogant asshat for even thinking he is in Messi and Ronaldo's year for one top level year.

Pirlo could have a chance for 2006 balon d or if Cannavaro didnt get the award for being a charismatic leader, that was his only chance in Pirlos career IMO. He was the best italian player for me that world cup.

How do you even mention Rui Costa? He can legit be considered semi-flop for Milan, he wasnt consistent enough and was considered underwhelming in pure top player impact, that they had to get Rivaldo and Kaka to get a real impact AM to get title chances.

Robben on his best seasons could certainly have won a Ballon d'Or, here I'm mostly thinking of 2014 and 2010. But he should have won the WC to be considered, also his injuries played a big role in him never being a contender. When he wasn't injured he was unstoppable at times.

His injuries allways stopped him, Robben shits on Ribery IMO when he is healthy (sheer unstoppable quality penetrating). But his peak years coincided with Messi and Ronaldo, if he had his peak in his younger days (you know, not flop in Real?), and was fully healthy while dominating (he is Hazard level for me at his best), then maybe he could been considered. But injuries and not winning the major trophy that could put you over an insane duo for one fluke season could been possible. Most of those peaks years he wasnt healthy or consistent enough to be even 3rd best most likely.

But defenitely one of the most lethal wingers I ever seen.
